Default The Model 10.

I have a question about the Model 10. After using it as a duty gun here in Canada for the last 18 years we have finally made the switch over to semi's, mostly M&P .40's.

My question is this... Did S&W ever make a Model 10 in a 4.25" or 6" variant? I carried the 4" BTW and that, by law, is now prohibited in Canada.

The law's are pretty conveluted so I won't try to explain them, except that 106mm (4.17") and above barrels are ok to own. 105mm (4.13") barrels and below are prohibited.

So, I can own a 6" Model 10 and have a good smith take it down to 4.17" or most likely a 4.25" barrel.

The things I have to do!!

I can purchase from an American selling such a piece and have bought quite few chunks from Buffalo Gun Center in the past. They being a licensed FFL and are familiar with all the paperwork (God bless em!) can help me out from there.

Any help would be great and I would prefer a bull barrel. Even a source that makes barrels would be a good start.

Prob. none so made. Can you get hold of a five-inch? They are pretty common, or were, at one time being issued by the RCMP. (1954-about 1993)
Handy length, and they give a little added velocity and look good.
Six-inch ones were also made, for many years.

I wouldn't let a gunsmith cut down a barrel for me unless I knew his work very well. They tend to mess up as much as they fix.

RCMP 5 inchers are a rarety up here. I don't think I have ever look mind you. Also, most police issues are destroyed after they are done with them for duty. unless of course S&W resupplies them with the upgrade firearm and then they generally discount the new piece for the reaquisition of the old.

As for a smith I trust... I have one he did my Model 66. Great job.

I have seen 6 inch model 10s in the gun shop before, however they were not heavy barrels if this is what you desire
