Default 9 mm Snub Nose

A friend of mine asked about the value of a 9 mm snub nose revolver. I didn't know anything about the gun. He told me it had been used by the Michigan State Police. Can anyone offer information and/or values for the gun. It is stainless.

We would need more info, condition being the most important thing. Also does it come with the orignal box and paperwork?

If it's s Smith & Weson it would have to be a Model 940 or Model 547.. As far as I kow there the only 9mm S&W Wheelguns..
Both can be worth a premium according to condition & accesories packageing etc..

I feel realy lucky to still have my Model 940

I'm with HEADKNOCKER, I think 3-inches is still a snub.

Unsnub 4-inches or greater?

While the 3" M547 might be a snub, the OP's last statement negates it as the answer to what his friend has.... "It is stainless".
Assuming the gun is a S&W, it's prolly the M940.

I didn't see the stainless part either..
If he's asking on the S&W Forum 1980 to Present it would have to be a 940 or the "One Off" 942 Airweight..

Headknocker,
Where in the world did you acquire a 942? The SCSW indicates there was only one ever made. Were you able to convince someone to part with this one or did you make your own like the Perf. Cent did? If you did it yourself where did you get the cylinder? From another 940? I would like to hear the details please.

Brownell's has the cylinders.
You should search this category for 9mm info, there's a number of threads on home made 9mm snubbies.

I aquired the 940-1 cylinder from another forum member here..
For me, It had to be fit so that the original cylinder would be able to be swapped back in, So no modification to the yolk was done, I suppose if the yolk would have been too long for the 940-1 cylinder I could have shortened it & then shimmed the 38 spl 642 cylinder..
I had to fit the ratchet to the existing hand & then shim the 9mm cylinder with a couple of power custom end shake shims..
I also had to slightly shorten the ejector rod to the exact lenth..
Now the revolver is strickly "Convertable" with just the end shake screw removal..
Being I also have a 940 & 40+ moon clips it's easy to load up & Pocket carries way better than the full weight 940..
Here's a PIC I took right after the convertion was completed..
And I Only "WISH" I had the only 942 ever produced, It would be worth a "MINT"

WC145: "Brownell's has the cylinders."

I checked their website this evening. Surprise, Surprise, they're out of stock. Just one more thing that's impossible to find these days. Ammo, reloading components, parts. The "gubmint" doesn't need anymore gun regulations. At the rate things are going guns and realted products are going to be as rare as a mint Model A Ford or a NIB Registered Magnum with the box and all the goodies.

I don't think he has the box or papers, only the revolver.

That 9mm SP101 is worth $325
I would suspect that it's worth more like $550-$600 IMO
Have a look at the Ruger Forum in the classifieds as one sold there last week..
Also if it's DAO, which if it was a LEO Carry Weapon I would expect it to be.. One of the SP101 9mms I had I fit a DAO hammer too..
You should grab it up ASAP..

Those 940 cylinders are drying up..
Midway USA List them but show Special Order, Probobly from S&W, The pics also look like there's some rust on the stainless..
Here's the link..
