Military discount status
Just wondering how many forum members took advantage of this offer, when did you submit your forms and what was your choice? I went for the 627 UDR and mailed my forms 12/23/09. I had been hoping that S&W would reintroduce this for years and now it's a reality. I'll post pictures when it arrives.

Not sure what you are talking about, you wrote this post as if everyone knows all about the military discount or something, not quite sure what you are referring to, but I might be interested..ha ha. I am guessing you get a discount on a gun of your choice if you are active duty or something? How much of a discount do you get?

S&W had a 40% off of retail price for active duty and retired military. I think it applied to any gun, I'm confident that it applied to all the handguns. In my case, I ordered an original 8 3/8th in barreled .500 Mag.
The sale ended with postmarks NLT 31 Dec 2009. Don

That was nice of S&W to do that. Just curious though, was it 40% off of the MSRP or 40% off the retail price at the dealer? The reason I ask is because few dealers sell guns at MSRP because it's too high and its hard to keep competetive. If it was 40% off the MSRP there might not be a big savings depending on where you shop at.

No No No No
It ends at the end of every calendar year meaning that you can buy one gun per year. It is for active and retired military.
If you bought one before Dec 31, 2009, you can buy another one in 2010.
I buy one every year, it has been ongoing for a while. I got this from S&W to confirm that it is still going on. Drop her a note yourself:
Hi James,
Yes it is true, Smith & Wesson is offering a 40% discount off the MSRP price of our revolvers, pistols and rifles. I have attached the order form for your convenience. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

It was 40% off MSRP directly from Smith & Wesson and set to your dealer. Mine was post marked 12/30/09 and I ordered a 442 no lock for $360 (almost ordered a Pro Series 60). It be waiting at my dealer sometime this summer when I get home agian. It also applied to retired personnel.

I ordered the M&P 340 around 6-7 January. If I hadn't been out of state I could have saved about 20 bucks by ordering it before the new prices came about with the new year.
Thanks S&W!

I didn't know that they did that. I may have to take advantage of this deal.

I don't have any knowledge of what guns cost dealers but a guy I know who has an FFL said that the 40% off on the .500 Mag ($1375 before the Jan 2010 price increase to $1414) was about $100 below dealer cost. Here in NM, I'd have to add nearly 7% sales tax so I thought it was a good deal indeed. Don

Military discount status
Well S&W charged my credit card $711 Friday for my UDR, that 122 days since I mailed my discount request off. Hopefully I get it next week and will posts some pictures.

Right at 4 months. Was told to expect it shortly. Hope so.
To be fair, S&W got confused, there were two orders for the same model gun (.500 Mag), same last name spelling, one to AK, me in NM, dealers they were shipping to had the SAME name. How absurd a coincidence is that? Don

What is a combat diver doing in Afghanistan? Didn't think there was much in the way of divable water there?
Thanks for your service. Don

My son-in-law is in Marja until the early summer and wants a M&P .357sig model. He wanted my daughter to buy it for him but I told her a dependent cannot but he can fill out the form and mail it in. This is for service members only, not family, correct?

I ordered a CS9. It came in yesterday. I can pick it up tomorrow. I'll be ordering a 41 this year.
It really is a nice deal. Even if the savings sometimes doesn't work out to a great amount, it's still a savings. And it's damn decent of S&W to do that. No one else does that I know of.

True, not much combat diving down here but then again I'm retired now but still working. Did a lot of diving in the Persian Gulf during the first Gulf War and in Kuwait and Jordan between the years.

In my last job, I taught a lot of EOD techs and at breaks would hear them talking about on the job diving. I'd frequently ask if they dove recreationally. Many would say "Hell no, I'm in the water all the time at work."
Stay safe. Don

Called S&W this afternoon for another update. Got another apology for the delays. Helen said that they would try to take the next .500 off the production line and divert it to me. Hope so. I'm not the most patient person when it comes to getting guns I've paid for and have been waiting for.
Can't imagine people who wait 6, 9, 12 mo, sometimes a couple years for custom guns. Far more patient than I am. Don

I am glad to see our all-American favorite revolver-maker pay some homage to our brave warriors. This country hasn't always received them so kindly. Heck, even sailors often didn't fare so well. Mustered out in Philly after returning from the Med (11/72), I, an ETn2 in the USN, was in dress blues for the last time landing here in Birmingham when a little teenage hippy wandering the airport aimlessly spit on me and called me a 'Baby-killer'! A sailor, no less - what a nimrod. She's probably got teenage grandchildren now.
We need to treat our warriors with the respect they are due. Thank you folks for your duty for our country! And, no, I am not upset one bit that you got a far sweeter deal on a UDR PC627 than I did... those are tears of joy for you. I love my new Blood Work revolver - you will love your's as well. Congratulations and thank you so much!
