Default 629-3 3-inch question........

was shown one of these over the the weekend and not able to answer his question..........there was NO box ,so no idea of any product code number, only the serial number was in the #BBW 2xxx range...no pin, no recessed cylinder obviously, and had the smooth finger grooved, round butt S&W grips, NOT rubber ( Hogues)..........any info to just what this gun may actually be referred to, (Lew Horton? carry Comp?? etc....)
thanks.................

The book refers to a 629-3 Carry Comp II. Is the cyl unfluted? If so, could be a Comp II. Also mentioned was a Comp I, no description
looks like 1988 dob

we checked under both, and its NOT "Carry Comp" or such, it has the regular fluted cylinder and NO compensator......and its not listed under the 'Lew Hortons" either...as I told the gentleman, the proof would have been on the 'label' ( product code..) but alas, no box..........
I am wondering if someone had just 'added' the S&W N frame RB wooden ,finger-grooved grips.......

hey Dan,, possably a "classic carry" or is dash 4 too early for that one?
could be a "trail boss" or a 629 "backpacker" either with the stocks swapped out?

S&W made so many different ones with the short barrels, when they were doing their "gun of the week" thingie it's hard to keep track, but they look sooooo. cool....LOL.... and have a great resale on them too...

people found out that if you actually shot them with full power .44mags they hurt. but every one still wants one.. so they command a rather nice price..

actually the best way to find out if a gun is a Lew Horton is to either e-mail them @ ..
[email protected] or give them a call @ 508-366-7400

dant,
If you call the factory (800-331-0852, select #7), you can get the P/C by giving the Customer Service rep the serial number. They have been very helpful to me, they might even tell you where it shipped.

Once you have a product code, it will be much easier to sort out, there were several 3" M629 variations made over the years.
