Last year my dealer got two .45 Colt stainless Mountain guns in. Both sold out fast.

Low & behold, one just came back, still un-fired! The fellow that bought it just put it in his safe. This week he decided he needed an asault rifle. He brought the Mountian Gun back, un-fired, w/ box, papers etc to trade.

I got it for $479.00 + tax. How did I do?

If that's a pre-lock, pre-MIM gun then you got a steal!
If it has the lock and MIM parts I'd say you still got a decent deal.

That's less than my wife paid new for my '01 vintage 625-7 MG 8/02, so, yeah, you got a deal! Incidently, while unsightly, the IL is innocuous - to me. That -7 has been a delightful shooter - joined years ago by a safe-queen '96 vintage -6 version, bought LN no box. It had a miserable trigger - improved, but still not the equivalent of the -7. The -6 has non-MIM parts and a hammer-mounted fp - and I still like the newer ,made one better. So, I wouldn't worry myself a moment over whether or not my new 625MG in .45 Colt had MIM parts or the IL - you'll love it!

Speer has a neat low speed .45 Colt 250gr Gold Dot (#4484 ?) - great protection. I plink with 250gr LRNFP or 255gr LSWC over 5.5gr Titegroup in Federally-primed Starline brass. Easy shooting, highly repeatable results, clean shooting - and you can go up to 6.2 gr and still be within standard (14kPSI) SAAMI spec's. BTW, I started reloading because of my .45 Colt consumption - mainly due to the 625-7 MG. I had >2,700 cases - mostly Starline and mostly from shooting Georgia Arms 'cowboy' loads. That MG is a 'perfect' shooter - really at home with wood grips, too. You'll love it. Yeah, getting it at that price - today - in unshot condition - time to play the lottery! Congratulations!

i paid 650.00 for my pre lock .44 and thought i got a good deal. nice find and enjoy the gun they are great .

I have two 625 Mountain Guns in .45 Colt. I bought one in the 1990's and the other a couple of years ago. One has the firing pin on the hammer and no lock and the other the frame mounted pin and lock. They are both nice guns and very accurate. I don't like one better than the other. The newer one has the better action from the box and the other one is sans the hated IL. Looking at prices and availability in these parts, you got a very good deal on that. They are few and far between around here. I like them because I can shoot the same ammo I brew up for my CAS revolvers and rifles. If I go to a match, I can use a Mountain Gun(or two) for a carry pistol when the match is over and don't need some other ammo. I know you will enjoy it. The ammo is fairly expensive and very scarce around here so, if you don't reload, you might want to start. It doesn't take much $ to get started and loading .45 Colt is pretty simple...and, its fun!

I'd be curious to know what kind of velocities you're getting from that factory load in the Mtn Gun!
I've been tempted to order some for carry/home defense.

It does have MIM, frame mounted firing pin & IL. Trigger pull and action are smoother then warm butter!

Ok, if you are going to gloat about that deal then at least post a picture for the rest of us unwashed - LOL. I have always held a soft spot for the mountain guns since their profile is the same as the original N frame guns. Good job and a great value!

The older high speed .45 Colt 200gr Gold Dots, like GA Arms still loads, made a whopping 1123 fps from my older 625MG with no pressure signs. The low-speed designed 250gr Speer Gold Dot ammo, if memory serves me as I didn't record the velocity of the few a fellow gave me, made ~840 fps - which is near (834 fps) what I get with 6.2gr Titegroup with no pressure signs when loaded with Federal LP primed Starline Ni brass (From other Speer GDs!). It does a job on a 2L pop bottle full of water, that's for sure. The velocities are commensurate with what I get with 255gr LSWCs over the same charge.

Yeah, when .45 Colts were nearly affordable, I bit on that 'roll your own' diatribe. They got me - mainly some of the usual range/store denizens. I became one of their Zombiefied numbers - identified by our butts in the air - head and arms buried in the garbage cans, amidst the McD's wrappers and chewing tobacco drool, looking for ammo boxes to recycle - or up to our elbows in the spent brass buckets hoping against hope to find some revolver brass (Why do they all shoot bottom-feeders, anyway?). I even started reloading calibers for planned 'future' purchases. You don't want to know what obscene things I do to some proud .32-20 brass to make them fit my 1895 Nagants, either. Reloading is a sickness, er, 'hobby', all it's own. Buy loaded ammo - GA Arms has new brass, even - nice folks & fair prices. Save the empties for me, yeah, that's the ticket!

PS Obviously, I started with .45 Colts - and reloading is fun. I never touched a press before I unpacked my Dillon 550B. Only problem I've had - a few with no powder - and a few with reversed primers. Of course, when I tried to shove a LP primer in a .454 Casull case, it was quite a learning event(It takes a Small Rifle primer!) - no bang, of course. Fun for rainy/cold days, too.
