Default Need Review: Thinking of getting .500 6.5" Half Lug Barrel for next S&W Purchase!

I really like the looks of the ported 6.5 Half Lug Barrel on this .500. Anyone got one they could tell me about compared to the other .500's.
Thanks,

You really can't go wrong with any 500 model.

I use my 4" for backup on my Alaska hunts...ouch...for any daring, pesky 4-legged critters!!!

Take a look at the 4" model...the 6 1/2" tend to be front-end tippy.

I have the limited production (100 produced) "Lew Horton" 4" 500 with green Hogue grip and green camo "Des Santis" custom leather/nylon holster & ammo belt carrier with green storage case.

These are tough to find but well worth the search...LewHorton.com maybe able to locate one.

I hunt with open sighted handguns and I'm acutely aware of the ideal combination of weight, sight radius, and portability. I've hunted for over 30 years with 8 3/8" 29s and 57s.

Last year I switched to a 500 S&W, and after much agonizing over barrel length choice, I selected a 6 1/2".

I find this revolver to be as comfortable as any 6" N frame when carried in a shoulder holster and though heavier than an N, the weight addition isn't noticeable for all day use.

IMHO, it is undoubtedly the best compromise between the 4" and the longer barreled 500s. Handle them all.... shoot them all.... and I believe you'll come to the same conclusion I have.

Good luck!!
