Question Smith and Wesson Model 29-3 info please

I went looking for a 686 stubbie yesterday and ended up putting a nickel 29-3 with a 8 3/8'' bbl. on lay a way. Its not what I wanted,I dont really like long barrels, but it looked so huge and cool,I just didnt know what else to do?!!What can you tell me about the -3 29s ?Are the long barrels better for recoil? My cousin said to take it out to the 100 yard range, could I take deer at 100 yards with it? Thanks Guys

I have an 8.375" Model 29-3. It is very accurate. Mine is blued. I can take a deer at 100 yards with mine. Whether you could or not depends on your shooting ability. The revolver/ cartridge combination is up to the task.

A 29-3 with that barrel length is certainly capable of taking deer at 100 yards if you are up to it. It doesn't have the pinned barrel or recessed cylinders. Can't see that matters if you're going to use it for hunting. It's a great gun and, in my opinion, better than the ones coming out of the factory today. It doesn't have the lock which I think is a stupid unnecessary addition and it doesn't have MIM parts which I think are just plain ugly. My 29-3 has been 100 percent reliable since day one. Enjoy it.
