Does anyone know how uncommon the 2 inch 631's are and what you would expect to pay for a nice example in box.

The 2" 631's are the most commonly encounter issues.

Truely NIB, unfired, unfuggered, complete, I would expect to pay north of $600.

What issue do they have?

I had to pull the trigger on a snubby SP-101 in 32 H&R magnum for my Mrs. since I haven't been able to find a 631; I have a Model 16 in 6-inch, and would love to round out with a pre-lock 631 snubby.

Hows about a 632.

You have to be prepared to pay north of $700.00 I have a bunch of 32 mag revolvers and the 631 2 inch is easy to shoot and low recoil, when you fire the revolver barely rises off of target. Plus it holds six cartridges!! I would say you could find one, but the word is out on how good they are. The 631 4 inch is harder to find and lots more expensive.

Another option is to look for a 431 (hammer) 432 (hammerless) or even 331 (hammer) or 332 (hammerless). The 331/332 is partially Titanium and a lot lighter than the 631. I posted a link to my earlier thread about a 631. Bought it from a new member, he had one S&W and only one post. The deal went great and my kids are fighting over it.

I just picked up an unfired Md 431 for a little over $400 and it is neat. Unfortunately I stopped at a Gander Mountain on the way home from buying it and came across its grandfather, a 1957-1960ish model 30 3" in 32 S&W Long.

Cool ,did the bananas come on it? The Uncle Mikes came on mine, but they are , kinda lame. Also your barrel seems to be lazer marked and mine is stamped. I did not know they made them long enough to have changes.

No the Bananas were an add on. I still have the original Uncle Mike's, but I think the Bananas look/feel much better. The writing on the barrel is stamped, just looks kinda funny in the pic. I believe they were only made in 91 and 92 and the 3'ers were among the rarest of the Centenials

I had a 632 1 7/8". Very pretty little gun. I read somewhere there were only 900 of that variation made. Cannot substantiate it. I have a 432 now. Nice little pocket gun I prefer over any .380 striker fired pocket gun.

You can't miss the distinctive view from the business end of this 6 shot J-frame....

It's the only J-frame I could never bring myself to part with...I picked it up in a pawn shop in 1994 or 1995 for $200. It had some hideous large rubber hogues on it that I dumped for a barami hip grip, now it sports these pachmayr compacs...I have been enlightened a bit on the small number of these made (190) and will endeavor to find some original smooth combat wood grips for it...

To me, the currently available 2 1/8" 632 Pro makes more sense than buying a used 2" 631 for $600-$700+:



Mine was pricey - ~$648 OTD - new 9/11. It comes with fixed elevation (Drift adjustable windage.) tritium Night Sights front and rear. It sports some 60 Pro grips, extra cost ($43) from S&W Accessories. It'll chamber, fire, and extract .32 ACP, .32 S&W, .32 S&WL, .32 H&RM, and .327 Federal Magnum rounds. The elevation & windage on mine were set for coincident POA/POI from 7-10yd, using a 'combat' sight picture, with both Federal 100 gr SJHP and Speer 115gr GDJHP .327 Federal Magnum loads, which let you know you've fired something more energetic than a +P .38. The wood grips don't help the recoil, but they help the hand fit/feel... and they look pretty neat, too.
