Default Auction win!

I picked up this 625-6 Mtn Gun at a fairly large (300 gun) auction for $750. I think I did ok??? It had the original box and papers.

You did well. Just how well depends on it's condition, but even if it's just a shooter grade, you did well.

I think you managed to get an ideal trail gun there. The .45 Colt is extremely versatile when handloaded. I really like the pre-lock Mountain Guns. I looked for one for quite a file, and finally found this 625-6. I customized it to some extent with a red ramp fromt sight, the earlier style cylinder release, and custom stocks giving it a square-butt feel. I think you'll really enjoy your find. It's a "perfect packin' pistol."

Good snag!! Enjoy!! Always happy to see a fellow forum member get a new gun. Remember, as I was taught on here, you can't pay too much, only buy a little too soon. Hold on, it'll all even out. Enjoy!!!

John Taffin has been on the Forum (I think), but he lives in Idaho (ditto).

Yes, "Perfect packin' pistol" is a John Taffin term! Ignore if you will that revolvers are not pistols, but maybe that's putting too fine a point on it.

As a side note, John wrote a very touching article in Guns magazine (November issue) titled "Seventeen to Seventy-Seven." It traces his interest in guns and writing through the years, and winds up almost being an auto-obituary.

His life and mine have been analogous, as we are the same age and have had very similar experiences. His outlook on the current administration in Washington and my own thoughts coincide exactly.

But for a few changes, it's something I might have written myself, and especially for those of you in your "sundown" years, I recommend it as an exceptionally good read.

John
