A friend got one like that at a local shop for $650 + tax about a month ago. It was used but in very nice condition and it had a moonclip tool with it. They had a new one in the case for $800+.

$ 650 sounds right. Maybe more with the clip holders.

To me, the engineering revision of a revolver that modern does not influence value.
New these are going for $800-$875 when you can find the 5"
If I am buying a used firearm I want to save 20% or more over a new one. If I can't save that, I will buy new and rest easy with the lifetime warranty that goes to the original purchaser.
So I would want to pay $600+ for this use with no extras. This has nice extras so I would probably look at $700+ for the package.

Looks like a -8 to me. It's the now discontinued 5" version. I'm guessing $700-800.
As an aside, I used to own one and, like the idiot I can sometimes be, I sold it. I've replaced it with a 625JM but I still wish I had that 5-incher. One of the best revolvers I've ever owned.

For everything pictured IMO 800 is in the ballpark, however I would try and bargain it down to 700. Currently a brand new 625 JM is running about 800-850 bucks, however they don't come with about 150-175 dollars worth of accessories.
One warning though, maximum barrel length for ESR in IDPA competition is 4.2 inches, so that 5 inch barrel is a non starter as an IDPA revolver.

You're thinking of an 8 shot 627 in .357 Magnum, not the OP's 625 in .45 ACP which only is available as a 6 shooter.

You would think I would learn to keep my mouth shut. You are of course correct.
Sorry for the mis-information. Worse, I own a 625JM.

Just for your info, that is correct, the warrantee goes with the GUN. Not the owner.
Warrantee coverage is not a factor. It will be covered.

It is time to call BS.
Passing Urban Legend on as if it was actual FACT is irresponsible. It happens way too often on the Internet.
The warranty is to the original purchaser, not the firearm. I am providing just page 33 of the January 2011 revision of the revolver manual. Below that is the link to the entire manual located on the S&W factory website. Read it for yourself.
