Model 66-2 Georgia State Patrol
The local gun shop has a Model 66-2 that is marked "GEORGIA STATE PATROL" in a shield. This is a 4 inch barreled gun. It is not listed in Supica's Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. Any ideas? Fantasy gun? Value? Inquiring minds would like to know

I purchased a 66-1 Missouri Highway Patrol commemorative with wood presentation box, knife, and cardboard boxes and papers for $650 last October. I saw another one in January for $1195. I would guess that the gun by itself would be about the same value as a 66-2 regular gun would be, say around $500. Kinda depends on the area of the country and local prices too.

I think the gun AJ is referring to is a regular issue duty revolver, not a commemorative. He may correct me. I had a similarly marked GSP 66 a few years back as well. I truthfully do not remember the dash no. of the gun I had. It was pinned and recessed. Wish I hadn't sold it. I would guess its value to be about that of a similar condition non-departmentally marked gun, unless someone was really into collecting such.

Just looking at it, I'd say it was a duty weapon.

How much did they want for it? Since I moved to Georgia once I retired form the Air Force, I'd love to have one like this. Do they have any more?

This sounds like a standard issue revolver. My brother in law was a G.S.P for 34 yrs. and this is what he carried until they changed over to semi autos. The m66 should have the orignal owner's badge number on it possibly on a shield engraved on the gun. The officers were offered the option to purchace these weapons if they wanted them before anything else was done with them.

......I spent a week Glenville to assist in a "contract agent" sweep in 1987.....had to be close...me and Chuck Mcclure gassed up at the prison about 0900, and made it back to the Chase Street cafe in time for lunch.

Neat. Sorry to get off of the subject but if "Ya'll" ever get down that way again, look me up. I live right at the churches.
