Default REVOLVER DAO CONVERSION

What is necessary to convert a modern conventional DA/SA revolver to DAO? I would like to change the hammer, instead of cutting off the spur. Where would I find the new hammer? Call S&W direct or aftermarket supplier? What internal lockwork would need to be changed, if any? Also, I had a hard time trying to search the forum for this conversion. Any help on how to correctly use the search engine in this forum would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What model revolver? Many DAO guns just have a different hammer. Some are factory DAO hammers and others are hammers that were modified after leaving the factory. You probably just need to replace your current hammer and it is likely someone on this forum has the part you need. They might even be interested in a trade for your current hammer.

Hope this helps.

Bodyguard, first off it would be helpful to know what model revolver you have. In most cases a replacement hammer wouldn't necessarily be needed to convert to DOA. Not sure about the newer MIM hammers, but on previous models the normal procedure is simply to remove the hammer and file off the single-action cocking notch, re-install and should be good to go. May or not remove the hammer spur. Of course one could also acquire another standard replacement DA/SA hammer to have on hand in the event you might want to return to original DA/SA. The conversion is often done on new guns by LE agency who desire that all their issued revolvers be DAO. Anyone competent to perform repairs on S&W revolvers should be able to convert yours. May not be advisable to be attempted by anyone unaware of exactly where to file and where not (may cause ruined hammer.) Again would be helpful to have the model #
