The only place I see them is on Gunbroker. Try searching the completed auctions and see what the ones that actually sold are bringing. I'm gonna guess $750-800 based on looking a few months ago.

Smile 625-2 prices

Bobby,

You may already know all this. The dash 2s had a couple of problems that made them less desirable. First, they had the 'floating hand' which doesn't work well with serious use. Second, many if not all of the cylinders wouldn't accept anything but factory ammo using full moon clips and extraction was very difficult. Many of these guns have been upgraded/corrected in the last 20 yrs.

As to pricing, I bought a NIB example at Rock Island Auction 4 yrs. ago for $550. all in. I would expect a NIB to be at least $700. now. The one you're looking at should be less.

For years I've seen posts about reported problems with the 625-2, but have never heard from anybody with first-hand experience. My -2 has functioned perfectly for a long time, and is an amazingly accurate revolver. Everyone who owns one reports zero problems. Gotta wonder who, if anybody, had the problems or if it's just Urban Legend.

Thanks y'all. I wanted to know a fair price to ask. I'm considering selling mine. I have had zero problems with it,although it hasn't been fired a lot. Hate messin' with those moon clips.

Well pinky, I guess I should have been more specific. I personally experienced the problems I described above. Extraction was so difficult I managed to punch a nice hole in my left palm. The gun went back to S&W(which always denied there was a problem) and came back with a new cylinder.....end of problem!

So pinky, did you buy yours NIB or is there a chance it had been fixed before you got it?

No, didn't get it NIB. Maybe they changed some things early on, maybe not. No floating hand, either. I did add the factory master action job (same on my 4" -3) and those guns are very smooth.

I bought mine, s/n BDC065X, in March, 1989, the first one I saw, and proceded to shoot the snot out of it. Still have it. It remains just fine. Most were fine. A few were bad. I believe the first ones were rushed out the door and this may have contributed to some spotty quality control.

Gunwriter J. D. Jones (American Handgunner) got a bad one. He sent it back and they returned it to him un-fixed. I don't recall what was wrong but he pissed and moaned about that for years.

Default Factory ammo in 625-2 attn. Fat Tom

I shoot 45 AR's on a regular basis. They are readily available and about the same $ as 45ACP; check out Georgia Arms (they also have 460 Rowland)

I've just recently bought one from a fellow member, have put 300+ rounds thru it, both factory .45acp w/moons, my reloads w/moons and my reload's using .45 AR. The one peice of advice I can give is to check OAL of the cartridge depending on the radius of the bullet you are using. Some bullets ogive's will contact the shoulder of the cylinder before seating in the cylinder causing the rim to protrude just enough to not let the rounds in the full moon drop in all the way.
Load a few test rounds of any bullet you are planning to reload for and check it, or for that matter if you don't reload check the factory ammo you are using to make sure it will seat using the moon clips. With AR brass I do the same thing, that is just common sense before loading a few hundred of anything for any gun.
Mine is very accurate with 200g Ranier's or my own 200g cast. I did find the 230g Lrn that feels fine under recoil in all my Colt 1911's is very stout when fired in this revolver. Makes sense as there is no slide/spring action to soak up the recoil.
As for the floating hand, i haven't had a problem, but really haven't put enough lead downrange to give an opinion on that matter.

I have owned this 625-2 since it was new. I must have got a good one as this 625 has only fired my reloads. BOD on the box is April 27, 1989. I hope this helps.
