Broke my magnum today
I have a Model 60-9 in 357magnum has been shot a few thousand times.
Today in double action the cylinder rotated but the hammer does not come back. Sometimes it locks up totally, the rebound spring did not seem to want to push the trigger forward so I tried to push it forward and it would not go. The action seems to be shot. It got a light primer hit the last time I took it out, but that was the only indication something was wrong.
I don't remember ever tinkering with the insides of this gun either. I will be getting a hold of S&W Monday, anybody know if this model is covered under the life time warranty.

They'll cover it. Sorry to hear that you're having problems, but they'll fix it.

Something similar happened to my cousins model 66 we took the side plate off and gave it a cleaning I soaked the internals & rebound spring in WD-40 and then BF CLP I gave the rebound slide and a few other contact areas a few LIGHT passes over some 600 grit sandpaper the gun cleaned up well and after reassembly and ~800 rounds it has never given another problem, but it's probably time for a light cleaning.
Just as a suggestion- you may want to clean it up First if you've never done so. If that doesn't cure it S&W it is if they repair it I'm sure you'll get a new rebound & main spring which might be a good idea after a few thousand rounds of service.
good luck---

The J frames are the only revolvers I leave alone.
The wife & I carry them for SD, never compete with them so I figure leave them alone. However, I do clean them. Every gun I own gets the regular cleaning every time it goes out. After 3-5 hundred rounds I do the regular then squirt it down with break cleaner, shake it out and repeat. Then I probably over oil it, 2 drops to the cocked hammer, 1 on the trigger, 1 on the foot, 1 on the cylinder / ejector rod. Then dryfire 10-20 times and wipe it down. Sometimes I get a bit in the holster but I don’t really care.
The man at S&W said it sounded like the post was gone and most likely would be covered. He also asked what I was shooting in it. I told him that it never fired that day but normally I shoot +P.
I do shoot a lot of mid power magnums thru it but not really hot ones. It’s not loose, would it make a difference? It is a 357 magnum stainless steel, is there a restriction I should know about?

I got my 60 back today. No charge.
It was a total of 5 working days (yesterday was a holiday) from the time it left until I got it back!
That is service!
They replaced the hammer block and the cylinder.

ILS is what probably made your revolver inoperable, only S&W won't admit it and replaced other parts too!

He means, The Lock? Does your gun have one?
In the left side photo that I just saw, it seems not to. Thank goodness...
