Default Price Check, Model 29 Mountain Gun Pre-Lock

Found one in a local store and it's a consignment gun so it will be $450 out the door. No box, used and no extras. Seems to me this is a fair price, but I'm not really up on all the latest prices. I know I paid 6 bills for my "lockable" .45 Colt Mountain Gun a few years ago.

Appreciate the input and advice.

Dan

Good price on the Mountain Gun, unless it has been dragged behind a car.

I bought a consignment gun recently(S&W 649). The listed price was fair at $350, but since it was after X-mas I offered $300. They ran the offer by the owner & we settled on $325. They may do the same at your shop, run the offer by the owner. You can always buy it at the listed price if it's turned down. The only downside is someone may snipe you at the asking price, but hey- money's tight.

Are you sure it's a Mountain Gun and not a standard Model 29 with a 4" barrel? The only pre-lock Model 29 Mountain Guns that I know of were a special run done for the SCSW and I don't think many members would be willing to turn loose of them. Either way, it sounds like a great price.

I saw a 629 Mountain Gun at a show recently for $550, asking price, I'll bet I could have got it for $500.
I don't remember the dash number, but it had the internal lock, etc.

Yup. It's a Mountain Gun. It doesn't have the full barrel profile, but rather the Mountain Gun profile. What say you?

The only two Mountain Gun variations for the Model 29 listed in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson are the 29-6 limited edition done for the SWCA and the 29-8 Mountain Gun. So unless it has the engraving and inlay of the SWCA versions or the lock of the 29-8, I'd think it is most likely a standard Model 29 that someone fitted the lighter weight tapered barrel to.

The standard 29 4" is a half lug barrel just not tapered like a mountain gun.
