Diplomatic Security Service??
I recently acquired this little jewel and after doing some research found that it may well be from a very short run of Model 19-5's that were made for the Diplomatic Security Service. Does anyone know of a way to confirm/deny this?
Also, any further information will be appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

Sho looks like one....no red ramp, no white outline....does it have a wider than combat but skinnier than target trigger on it? Only way to tell for sure would be the letter from Mr Jinks. But I am certain you have a DSS gun there. Joe in GA

Yes, it has a trigger like none I've ever seen before. Wider than the common one, slimmer than the target one.

State Dept Model 19
If you do a search, one of the forum members has a letter from Smith and Wesson for a gun that was shipped to the United States State Department. It detailed the shipment was for 335 units, with serial numbers ANN8094 to ANN8428,
2 1/2 inch, matte blue, checkered walnut grips.

DSS apparently purchased lots of 2 1/2" Model 19s in various configurations as to trigger and hammer- wide, narrow, grooved, smooth- and grips. The revolvers are slowly being taken out of inventory as agents' issue sidearm is now the SIG 229 with the remaining revolvers used by local investigators, bodyguards and local guard personnel being replaced with the Glock 19. Frankly, I'd take a 3" K or L frame over either of the autos with a .357 load.
