Default Model 29 Mountain Gun (unmarked barrel)

I was at my local dealer and noticed a 629 in the case. After looking at it I noticed it had the thin barrel of the Mountain Gun, but there was no marking on the barrel. Is it the Mountain Revolver, the first of the Mountain Guns? I believe it was a 629-2, but I could be wrong. It also had a matte finish and no lock. What would the value be?

A 629-2 could be a Mountain Revolver. There were no barrel marking except the standard Smith & Wesson on one side and .44 Magnum on the other. The finish was matte. The original run was suppose to be 5000 guns but I don't know exactly how many were made. Value would depend on condition and location. Pictures are always helpful.

This is what a Mountain Revolver looks like (629-2), except they were supplied with rubber grips. I don’t know what they’re bringing.

I can't take a pic because it's at my dealer. He's asking 550 dollars. What do you think?

Price sounds good, if it's in good shape, jump on it. This past summer, I picked up a 629-2 in this same configuration with original box and docs, two sets of rubber stocks, and finger groove combats for $675.

Hope this helps,

-TS
