Default Bought another one, I've got it bad.

After several years away from the hobby, I recently re-caught the bug. Some of you may remember the bad luck I had trying to purchase a 10-5 snubnose (full story in this tread: Model 10 serial numbers ). The fact that I was forced to return that gun may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Being that I already have a nice 10-6, I started thinking that I would probably get a lot more use out of a .22 rather than another .38 Well, I've been shopping around and finally found a deal I could live with on a really nice 617-6.

I'm thrilled with this gun. I just came in from putting 60 rounds through it, and I love it already. What a great shooter it is! I know a lot of people have a problem with the internal lock, but being that this is a plinker, not a self-defense gun, the lock doesn't bother me at all. I'll probably never use it, being that there are no kids in the house.

Serial number is DCS77xx, if one of you smart guys could tell me the year it was born, I'd appreciate it. I don't know why I always want to find this info out, I just think it's interesting, I guess.

The gun itself is almost like new. There's very little evidence of it being used. It came with the box, cable lock, all of the papers, everything you'd expect when buying a new one. Well enough talk, I'm going outside to put a few more rounds through it.

The S&W bug has bitten me hard, I'm already trying to decide which one will be next.

Found the date of manufacture inside the box, 2008.

The "Spec Ord" on the box end label is a Julian date. That'll give you a pretty accurate date of when S&W added it to their inventory.

Did it come with a fired case? There's also a date on there.

Congratulations and yes S&W's are a slippery slope that always leads to more S&W's.

I can already tell this gun is going to get more use than any other I have. In two days I used up a whole box of 550 rounds.

There is! It's "buy one-a-month"! And it works great!

My dealer told me I had a problem (you know it's bad when your dealer says you have a problem), and needed to be in a twelve step program. So I bought a Model 12.

Every time I buy a new Smith I tell my wife "this is it, I don't need another one." She's heard that one at least 25x and it ain't workin' anymore. Gotta come up with something new.

Great gun, by the way. My 617-1 4" is one of my favorites. Who made those snazzy grips?
