Default Price on Model 28 and Model 57- pics added.

Was in a store recently and spotted 2 Smiths that I might be interested in. The first is a Model 28 4", looks to be unfired, no box/papers, he is asking $295.

Second is an unfired Model 57-1, blue, and I have to confess I forgot if it was 4 or 6", but it only had one very small blemish on the barrel. No box/papers, Hogue rubber grips, he is asking $495.

Is he in the ball park? If I offered $725 OTD cash, would it be worth it?

Thanks. New at this, but I can feel the bug already.

That is a great price on the 28 especially if it isn't reblued. If you can get two N frames for under 800.00 in good shape it is a definate buy in my opinion.

Thumbs up Time Warp

I would say, unless your message has been stuck in a time warp for about 3 years, you cannot get hurt on these at that price, assuming good mechanical and cosmetic condition on both.

The dealer said that a man came in and needed cash for his business and sold him 30 guns, mostly unfired, with these two included. His wife had gotten tired of moving the boxes, so......

I think I will stop by tomorrow and see what trouble I can get into. Thanks for the replies.

That price is low, especially on the 28. The 57-1 isn't worth what a 57 no dash is, but under $500 is a good price, especially if it is a 4". $790 for both is a deal, if you can do less, so much more of a deal.

Well, based on the input, I just told my wife I was probably going to get the two of them.....and I lived to tell about it.

Well, the Model 28 I did not look at the other day. When I got a look at it, it was not quite as I was told. Had some bluing worn off on the barrel and some freckles, but it seems to lock up tight and the barrel looked great.

So, bottom line, they will come home with me soon for $725 out the door, tax included.

I can live with the 28 being a shooter for $245 tax and all.

What's the barrel length on the 57 if you had the chance to re-check?

I hope you'll share pictures once you get them home.

Congratulations on your good deal!

A shooter grade model 28 for less than $300? YES to that!

It sounds to me like the 28 is still a good deal. As long as it is all there and tight with no significant pitting, I'd pay the asking price.

It is a 6 inch. I will post photos as soon as I pick it up. Rather than update my permit twice, I am waiting for a gun I have coming from Oregon to hit my dealer, so I will pick them all up at once, and sneak the 3rd one in the house, since She Who Must Be Obeyed doesn't know it is coming...

Bought and paid for- just need to get them on my permit and put my Zorro mask back on and bring them all home.

Just hope the cops aren't behind you on the way home. Those prices would be considered theft in 50 states and 5 territories.

Several of the great guys on here have helped me "Convert" some of my investment guns back into greenbacks.

One thing I have learned over the years...

You have to sell a gun purchase to the wives and significant others not as another "Toy" but as an "Investment" in both of your futures and financial security. Just make sure they know the value of the stuff in your safe in case you unexpectedly "Check Out"

Default look what followed me home today....

I got the 57-1 and the shooter grade 28, plus the pre-14 I bought and had shipped to my gun pusher. Picked them all up today- these are bad photos but it is raining out today and the lighting was less than ideal....but, you can get the idea.

28 with some holster wear and a few freckles...sorta like me. $245 otd.

Model 57-1 $480 otd

pre-14

These join my other two blue Smiths:

and my nickeled one...

I think I been bit by the Smith bug....

The 28 has all of the lettering and the logo in white, as you can see in the photo. It does not look to be an after market job- too neat. Was it a factory option?

Thanks Iggy. I think I have it backwards. I retired already and now I am spending money instead of doing this for a nest egg! But as long as She Who Must Be Obeyed is ok with it, and I can sneak a gun in the safe once in a while, I will keep doing it.!
