Model 528?
Still don't know what to call it. kind of a cross between a model 520.
and a model 28, thus the 'model 528' moniker.
This model 28-2 has undergone the following changes;
Rear sight removed.
Barrel cut from 4" to 3.5" with front sight cut off.
deep crown.
Round butt frame to N-round.
Bobbed hammer installed.
Complete action job.
The pictures show the grips I used as a pattern for the round butt
conversion. And the subsequent fit of the LG-206 Lasergrips.
All work was done by myself. Using a bench grinder, file, sanding pads,
and cold blue.
Initial cost of the gun was $217. ,with no more $ invested,
other than the $100. spent on the lasergrips at a local show.
They were not working at the time, and I repaired a battery
contact to repair them.
The serial number remains completely intact on the butt of the gun.
The sight picture.Enhanced by a bit of white-out.
We took it to the range this afternoon, BubbaBlades and I.
And shot it with a great array of 38 and 357 ammunition.
As expected it shot 2" low at 7 yards ,and about 4" low at 15 yards,
using the iron sights. So the front sight 'blade'will have to be
machined down a bit more.
But ,,using the laser grips ,we had a great time ,with absolutely
zero malfunctions ,and stunning accuracy from such an órphan'.
Firat target ,6 rounds ,then laser adjusted, and another 6 rounds.
The afternoons aggregate target, about 150 rounds of various loads,
at 3 ,7 ,and 15 yards.
Lots of shooting fun!
Regards , AlleN-Frame.

I should be horrified by the concept of what you have done, but I am intrigued by the result.

Palmetto , kind of like looking at an accident on the side of the road?
You know you shouldn't stare but can't help yourself?
Trust me when I tell you ,this gun was a mess before I started,
with scratches and pitting all over it.
Regards ,, Allen Frame

Great job making a gun that was (apparently) abused into a really nice and useful shooter.

I agree. If I found a real rat of a 28, I'd probably chop the barrel - give it a bead blast & blue job, and give it a job.
I'd probably put some sort of milled/pinned on front sight, and maybe a Cylinder & Slide "Extreme Duty" rear sight. That would be one tough use revolver!
Take care,
Bob S.

Nice Modification
You are gonna be hounded to do more like it. That is too practical, everyone who sees it will have to have one. By the way, you do nice work and shoot well too.

AlleN-Frame, I love the concept of the combat revolver. What you have created is a down to business no frills (sans the CTC grips) revolver. Nice work, very nice work sir. Now, I must go stare at my 28-2 and day dream.

Good Job!
You have created a neat looking "cut-down" N frame. May I suggest a Tyler's T grip to finish it off.

I believe that a clarification of Al's "complete action job" is needed. Thanks to his work, this gun has a double action equal to or better than anything that I have used from the S&W Performance Center. I cannot believe that 100% ignition took place with this light of a trigger pull. Another fact worthy of note is that all but a few of the 150+ rounds fired were fired double action and off hand unsupported.

Gentlemen ,thanks for the comments.
Believe me ,if not for the small initial investment ,I wouldn't have
attempted these modifications.
But ,,we have to practice on something ,yes?
regards , Allen

Alllen, you have inspired me. Another new project gun is needed here! Now I will be haunting the pawns for a "sleeper" of questionable linneage and try an alter his "upbringing". That is a neat gun, thanks for sharing.

I'd simply call it a new carry gun.
What else could one ask for?

Whatever you call it, its cool. I like seeing "custom" revolvers that are 100 percent useful without costing an arm and a leg and your first born....

Who was doing the shooting, you or Allen?
I am totally envious of the skill set that Allen has. Super impressive.

Jjbrewst1 now owns the 528!!! And look at her now!
Allen-frame sold me his "528" and it came to me with a 7 shot cylinder which I quickly replaced with a mod 28 stock cylinder.
As the gun was sitting around and my other pieces made her feel
like the ugly duckling, I sold it to Jjbrews1 and bingo, she was off to live in Wisconsin. Jjbrewst1 worked some magic:She got a new coat of shiny blue and complimented by Lew Horton finger groove combats.
Before Transformation
A fter Brewski magic!!
Brewski sure transformed it into a handsome fighting N frame!!!
