I have been admiring the Model 27 revolvers that have been shown on this forum. The question I have is...Did Smith&Wesson ever make this model with a shorter than normal cylinder because as I remember, a couple of these I had were about the same length as the .357 ammo that they fired. The later ones,27's that is, that I had seemed much longer.
Just curious.
The cylinder length usually depended on the caliber. For example the cylinder on a Model 57 .41 mag is 1.75" but the cylinder length for a .38 Special Model 20 is 1.57". I don't know the length but the cylinders look tiny in the frame window of the .45ACP N-frames.
If anything, the later Model 27's, without the recessed cylinders, had shorter cylinders (1.57").
