It seems the -3 is the least desireable 686 (except for the lock models). And, truth be told, the fit and finish of my -5 is superior to this one in more ways than one, but I love the square butt and she shoots like a dream!

I NEVER MET A 686 THAT I DIDN'T LIKE, AND YOUR'S IS NO EXCEPTION. THAT'S A FINE LOOKIN' REVOLVER.

Nothing wrong with the 686-3. The one you have looks very good. I have a 686-3 in 2 1/2, wouldn't get rid of it.

My first S&W revolver was a 686-3 Classic Hunter. It's the top gun in the photo. The gun below is it's big brother a 629-3 Classic Hunter. Both have unfluted cylinders and sport Hogue wood monogrips.

Same as the above I love my 686-3 Classic Hunter which was NIB I have had several 686s and kept this one. I also cant wait till I get home in May to get its big brother the 629 Classic Hunter NIB waiting at the shop.

How do the 586-3 compare in quality to the 686-3 ? Just wondering if the 586-3 is percieved as a "better" -3 model than the 686-3.
