My new to me 686-4 has a trigger pull that is too light. Is there an easy adjustment (strain screw or something) that I fiddle with to change the pull?

I did have a 'smith look at it after I bought to see if the previous owner had worked on the internals, and it looks as though he did not. So, at least I have a baseline starting point.

I'd like to hear from y'all prior to messing with it.

Turning the strain screw all the way in does increase the weight of the trigger pull. If the strain screw backs out on its own you could use the less strong Loc-Tite to stabilize it. Are you saying it is too light because you are getting light hits or failures to fire ?

No, it works fine. I'm just not used to this 'light' pull. Probably just need to shoot it more and get used to it.

You most likely bought a S&W because you wanted a nice gun. Having a good trigger pull is what comes with a nice gun like S&W. I think if you will practice with it you will get used to it and not want any thing else. Don

I wish light triggers were all I had to complain about with my guns...

My 686 no dash has a dbl action pull of 8lb 5oz and a single action pull of 2lb 11oz. The dbl action pull is about 2 lbs less than my 586 and my 617 and the single action pull is 1/2 to 3/4lb lighter. The only thing I have ever done to it was to lightly emory the sides of the moving parts. I wish I could get the other 2 to be the same. Anyone who has shot the 686 in the last 24 years is just amazed by the trigger and has trouble believing that the trigger came like that from the factory. It is sweet.

Is the double action or single action pull too light?? Like the others have said adjusting the strain screw will help.

You're right. After shooting inexpensive .22 pistols/rifles, I guess I don't know how good I have it with this revolver.
