Default It's good to have friends. 625-7 Mountain gun found!

Thanks to a phone call from Bravastar , I found my 625 Mountain gun in 45 Colt.
I cannot believe my good fortune ,I've been looking for one of these for a long while.
A super deal on Gone-broker,from some really nice people in Pennsylvania.

Help me out here.

SCSW lists the 625-6 engineering change as "(1997) Change in frame design to eliminate cylinder stop stud; eliminate serrated tangs; change to MIM hammer with floating firing pin; change to MIM trigger; change internal lockwork to .45ACP caliber."

and

"625-7 (1998) New frame design as above but for .45 Colt."

My 625-6 has the hammer mounted firing pin, the cylinder stop stud, and a serrated tang/backstrap. My Mountain Gun is #CAR67XX. Mine appears identical to WFR's, except it has the new style thumbpiece. I am assuming that my hammer and trigger are not MIM.

Am I overlooking something, or is this an anomaly? I looked quickly in the appendix in SCSW and didn't see a CAR serial number prefix listed, although I might have over-looked it.

Allen;
That is a NICE handgun. I really consider my 624 (4") an "Early Mountain Gun" even tho' it really isn't. Pretty much the same, tho'. I, too, would like one in .45 Colt.

Either or both are VERY nice handguns.

I am learning that 625-6s were made in 45acp ,and 45 Colt.
One of my 2 p.c. 625s in Colt is a -6.
And ,believe it or not ,Saturday ,the day after I made the deal on this 625-7 , my shooting buddy Bubba Blades comes home from the West Palm Beach gun show with a 625-6 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt.

I traded him my 686 Mountain gun for it. It has forged hammer and trigger ,with only the thumbpiece is m.i.m..
It's really beautiful ,and clean.

I'll post pictures of the pair together when I receive the -7 that I just paid for today.

Regards ,Allen

My new 625-7 MG (top, below) - a gift from my wife 9/02 - started my S&W madness. I traded away my next-to-last Ruger .45 Colt, a 5.5" SS Bisley BH, for a LN (no box) 625-6 MG (bottom, below). Love the .45 Colt - especially in a S&W and DA!

The 625-6 still isn't as slick as the -7, but I shoot it most of the time these days. The -7 has sentimental value, so I stopped my seemingly 'wear it out' regimine when the older one arrived. I know, the -7 is likely worth more - not to me - it's my 'shooter' - and spares the sentimentally-valuable one for a bit. Just fun shooters!
