Have seen them go for $15-$20 here. I would grab ALL of them at $8.

When S&W sold them (three years ago, I think), they were $1.50 each.

They were not intended for "public" consumption. They were originally offered as "perks" to dealers to "show" their S&W handguns. I guess there was more supply than demand, so S&W sold them off. Probably not a high profit margin item considering the shipping and handling time involved.

Actually, SA&W didn't make them. They were made by an outside vendor for Smith as well as other gun makers. I have seen them for Ruger in red with a black phoenix on it, and they are all identical. Smith just stopped buying them.

I picked up one from SW some time ago. Since then I bought a large number of clear acrylic 4" X 3/4" rods for display purposes.
Many more than I needed but had to buy bulk. Anyone interested, drop me an IM. Good deal. ( Mod:If this belongs elsewhere, please move. - Thanks)

I got lucky, a dealer who had a S&W rep working for them, the rep defected to Ruger. One day I asked them if they had any S&W prop rods I could buy, they gave me ten of them new in thier little bubble wraps. I gave away five of them to fellow forum members and have five to use. Sometimes it never hurts to ask!

This is why you don't see them anymore and please, no offense to you rollin_hot as I know what you meant.
This subject has come up here many, many times and a few really nice guys have given them away and that's why I like these boards so much.
I've been looking for one for a long time but I gave up after determining these were some kind of unobtainium object only for the select few.
I really wonder why S&W doesn't release them for sale on their site as they would sell like hotcakes.
