Default 64-2 HPD?

Just received this in on an auction. Haven’t had a chance to clean it up. It has HPD 107 stamped on frame below the cylinder window. Houston PD maybe? Any of you know for sure? It also has scratched out below the main spring what looks like “ASSY COL” It doesn’t look like factory stamping that I have ever seen.

Darn good buy! You got a GREAT Deal on that one. I missed it. I regularly search for HPD and H.P.D...but they didn't note that in the auction listing anywhere. Earl

What does HPD stand for? I asked a retired Houston cop who's a forum member, he said it's not Houston.

I'd letter it to find out for sure. The HPD retiree would know more how the revolvers were marked and if they even issued Model 64's. I am mostly interested in the older N frames and Houston PD marked those on the backstrap.

It could be Henrico County Virginia Police Department, Honolulu, or who knows where but it will most likely letter to where it was issued.

Chances are it came from a department with at least 100 officers with its 107 rack number. I don’t recall ever hearing of a model 64 with Honolulu Police Department. They had model 10s up until the early to mid 90’s and then went to 5906.

Hartford, CT is a good sized town. So is Huntsville, AL.

This is not an issue weapon from Houston Police Dept.! Basically Houston P.D. issued 2 revolvers:

1. Prewar M&P 38 special 4" barrel from about 1928 that was marked City of Houston Police department on the backstop. This was factory engraved by S&W

2. A prewar 3rd model 44 special hand ejector that was shipped to Wolf and Klar and was marked, apparently by them, H.P.D. 1-300 on the inside of the grip.

I am fairly certain this information is correct drawing on my career with that Dept. I am a senior citizen and memory is not perfect.

That's two retired Houston officers saying it's not a Houston PD gun. Surely this isn't the only 64 that has HPD on it.
