So when my son bought his first revolver it had two keys inside. He did not know what they were for!!! I told him it was to unlock handcuffs with!! He whipped out his keyring and examined the handcuff key on it and told me "Nope Dad it don't look the same" (He works at a jail).
I then pointed out that there was a hole on the side of the revolver above the cylinder release. He looks at me and says, "I thought that was where I pour the gun oil into".

...to see if "the lock" will fail in reverse by locking the loaded revolver and then repeatedly pulling the trigger. If the revolver ever fires then the lock is even worse than we thought.

Perhaps they should call it an ammo lock. Makes more sense to me!

I really can't think of any reason WHY locking my revolver would be a good idea.................soooo I won't buy one with a lock. So there S&W executives, take that and chew on it.

I don't have a gun with a lock yet,I may nab a newer mod with one though....I can use the lock however.

The reason I lock my revolver is....

To mess with anyone I hand the gun to to try out, lock it before I hand it to them and watch the fun when they can't get it to go off!

My lock actually came in handy this year at Christmas.

I was staying at my parents house. Everyone was in chill mode and I wanted to dress as comfortably as possible and really relax..(loose fitting pants after a big meal)

There were lots of kids (some I didn't know well) running around everywhere, and I was worried about one of them going through my stuff where the gun was stored.

That being said, I'll still likely remove my lock. The #1 reason I bought this gun (360PD) is that it will fire when the trigger is pulled.

I wish I could be 100% sure about the lock not mal-functioning, but I cant. Are there any failure stories?

My buddies brother in law had a Taurus 38 with the internal hammer lock
He was showing his buddy how it worked & shot a +P round off in the kitchen deafening everyone, luckily he had the gun pointed in a safe direction & now has a hole threw his cabinets & wall to the outside..

This alone is a good enough reason to not have such Micky Mouse junk added to guns..

In the pre lock days I bought 6 Master Lock trigger locks all keyed the same (look for the number stamped on the key.) I put them on two loaded shotguns and two loaded handguns secreted in the house and my shop. I then glued magnets onto a couple of keys and hid them in proximity to the guns. Why go to this trouble?....I have always been concerned about children and unknowledgeable adults finding them or coming home and having an intruder using one of my own guns on me. The rest of my guns are in a gun safe.

I kinda like the IL but, like some others I have been flabergasted to find I was carrying the gun locked on one occasion....I now know to double check.
(You didn't make that mistake w/ the MasterLock)

So if it falls into the hands of children, mental defectives, or gun control advocates they don't injure themselves or others.

Are you people nuts?

THANK HEAVEN FOR THAT LOCK!!!!!!!.

See, I made a decision that I need to get more carbon in my diet, y'know?
(Helps keep ya reg'ler.)
Turns out I kinda like that metallic taste of stainless, too.
SO, I can get my carbon intake AND clean the muzzles of my Smiths at the same time just by chewin 'the carbon off of 'em.
Now think about it, if that lock weren't there, maybe a round could go off in the process.
'Specially for me 'coz I like to do it most while I'm drivin'. Pothole could be a life-changin' experience right there, boy lemme tell ya...

I lock my revolver so it doesn't breed with a Ruger or Dan Wesson while they're in the safe and out of sight; must keep the bloodline pure.

Default I have a 6-year-old boy

I'm thankful for the internal lock. I have a son, and someday I'd like to teach him how to shoot and and hunt, and enjoy firearms. But first I have to get him successfully through the next 10 to 15 years of being impulsive, and work with him to develop good judgment, discipline, and responsibility.

When they are not being carried on my person, I lock the guns with their internal locks. I put the guns in the lock box inside the safe (and lock it). I lock the safe. I lock the door to that room. I lock the ammo in a separate place.

I bought the guns to protect my family. Paradoxically, I also have to protect the family from the guns. That's what a responsible guy does. This has been a real funny thread, and you guys are real humorous about gun locks. But the internal lock is about keeping the firearm safe from a curious child. Period.

I would lock mine so it doesn't discharge if my bird trips over it.

jamesjames...welcome to the forum!

I typed and then retyped a reply and question for you regarding your statement above but I couldn't quite phrase it in a way that I felt sure you would receive as I truly intended....so, welcome to the forum and keep that family of yours interested in the shooting sports. They'll be safer in the long run with more education (and someday perhaps fewer locks).

The reason to lock the revolver is to be able to start threads like this one that go on for eight pages, and hopefully, Lee or one of the other moderators will put a lock on it to put a stop to the increasingly stupid topic the dreaded lock has become.

I wonder how many times S&W has been sued for some poor soul being shot "accidently" by a pre-lock gun? Could you sue them if your life was in danger and you couldn't defend yourself because your gun was locked? Not that I'd have to worry about it, I only have one with the hole and it's been pluged!
