Magna Port
Those are some sweet wheelguns. I really like the front sight on the Bulldog. Even my old eyes could see that.

Wow, nice work. I hear they are at the top of the game! I have a 696-ND that's in very good shape and will keep it stock. However I have a few K and N-frames that I keep thinking would make good candidates for custom work.

I have a 2.5" Model 19-3 that Mag-Na-Port went through when it was new - porting, action job, etc. It has absolutely the best action of any S&W I have ever handled, the single action is light and crisp, and the double action is unbelievably sweet - so smooth it is unbelievable! They always did, and still do, superb work, and your guns are fine examples. Enjoy!

The "upside down marks" on the cylinder are polished rings.
The "XXX" are EDM cut out of the metal.
It's all part of their custom package for the Bulldog.

I've had several guns customized by some pretty well known outfits over the years and have to give Mag-Na-Port it's due. They do premium work without a doubt. I wouldn't hesitate one second in giving them another project if they would just leave off the DAMNED ports.

Nice to see these beautiful Mag Na Ports. Thru the years I had kind of lost track of this mod. The only one in my herd is a 629 3" Mag Na Port in Bright Stainless. For some reason I still have not shot it. Maybe it will come out of the safe for a test drive. Enjoyed this post very much. Thank you.

629 Power Port
Nice to see a MagnaPort thread here. I had this done several years ago after reading a review that Layne Simpson did for Shooting times. In that article, a 629 and 617 was reviewed, both custom by MagnaPort. I was very pleased with the results. I had the glass beaded finish, polished hammer/trigger, pinstriping and a triggerjob performed. No trapezoidal ports needed as this was already a powerported model.

Umm, can't you request that they just don't do the ports? I've got a couple I'm gonna drop off to 'em.

When I had my work done, the menu was "a la carte." YOU pick the options YOU want. YOU stun it, YOU cut it, Just the way YOU like it. Just like Mels Char Palace. (for you classic Saturday Night Live fans)

How about some comments on the quality of the Magnport trigger jobs. Anyone out there have them work over a J frame?

A+++
VERY SMOOTH is how I would characterize their trigger jobs. I can't imagine a better quality one than they do. It truly is top notch.

Years ago, back in the 70's Mag-na-Port did a conversion on the Charter arms Bulldog called the "Backpacker". This was a shortened barrel, bobbed hammer, trigger job, dull SS type finish etc. and I always thought it was a great idea for a belly gun...
Boy your post sure brought back the memories. Great pics! thanks for posting. Very nice piece...

I'm pretty sure they will do the work without the ports and I would highly recommend them. The action job they did for me on an N-frame was wonderful.

Wasn't that Bulldog the giveaway Gun of the Month a while back in Guns magazine? or was it Amer. Handgunner? Did you win it? (I'm glad somebody is winning those danged things - I've been entering for years and never won squat)

hmmmm. maybe the GOM contest influenced you in some subconscious way? Anyways, nice piece; I sure do miss my Pug. In fact, next my 'list' is a 296 to replace it with (might get another Pug also - they're inexpensive)
I just had the ports put in this 29-4 back in the early 90s (no other work). As I recall, it was $65.

Snowbandit....Mag-Na-Port ONLY ports customer guns when the customer specifies porting. I love the work of Mag-Na-Port but prefer my Snubs unported...Some guys who prefer longer barrels seem to benefit from the recoil/muzzle rising benefits of the ports. Just to clarify...Porting is NOT required from Mag-Na-Port....Zebulon

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout! You have some awsome fighting revolvers WC. That is one handsome N-frame. Mag Na Port mini-combats look great, and I can only imagine how they feel and shoot. Many, many congrats on your your fine customs. Are you going to shoot/carry them? [My ported snubs make a mess when shooting lead. (lead, lube, powder residue etc.) I've been thinking of brushing on a little Kroil or maybe alox on the site area before shooting sessions to see if cleanup would be any easier.] Anyway, beautiful roscoe and thanks for sharing. Tell us what the attractive artist is doing for you.

Thanks for the acolades.
Yes, I'll shoot & carry it. I took the 657 to the range yesterday. It was shooting low, so I took it back to Mag-Na-Port. They took some off the front sight. I'll check it out again next week.
The "attractive artist" is just an app I downloaded on my Droid. It's like a photo shop. I just thought it looked neat.

WC,
Your Mini Combat Magnum 657 is one of my grail guns. I have other custom 41's that I am very happy with, but your 657 has made me want get M-N-P to make one up for me (w/out the porting though).
Thanks for posting some "grail" pictures, to get the gears turning.

Nice work from Mag-Na-Port. Makes me think about sending them my 3" PC 629 for some clean up and trigger work. It came ported from the factory/PC shop.

I don't know yet. I would like fingergroove combats but I don't think they will fit correctly with the conversion. Any opinions?
