Default Very rare UDR...........Maybe

Got my Military Discount UDR today. I think that this might be a one of a kind.........maybe. Has anyone ever seen a 627 stamped as a 625-8 that really was a 627??? If not than take a look. I figure I have three options (1) Send back to S&W for correction, (2) Lock this baby up because its worth its weight in gold, (3) Accept that we live in an imperfect world and drive on. What would you do?

Replaced the grips with some Ahrends for a better feel.

I would sell it, make some change, and buy another one to shoot, if you can afford to have it and not shoot it ( I can't ) keep it and buy another to shoot

S&W's with the wrong model stamp aren't particularly rare, and usually don't command a premium price. May even be worth less. The factory has always been frugal with major parts. If they discontinue a run of 625's but get an order for 627's, they'll simply put the necessary parts on the frame, even if it's already been model stamped. Dash changes have always been mix-and-match time, especially when there have been major revisions like the switch from pinned to unpinned barrels, and from recessed cylinders. I'd just shoot the gun and not worry about it.

It probably will not be worth a lot more, but who knows.
You could put it back and get another one, or just use this one. I would probably just use it.
It took me so long to get mine, I am using it.

Mis-stamped guns are fairly common place if you look at a significant number of S&W's. I have a model 29 that is mis-marked or was assembled on a frame that had been stamped 57 no dash. I actually got it for less at the time because the guy who owned the shop said several prospective buyers passed it up because of the discrepancy.

Shoot the gun and enjoy it.

I got mine four weeks ago Saturday. I kept saying to myself, having wanted one for ten years and watching the meteoric rise of the original's value, "I'm not worthy... I'm not worthy...". I actually considered not shooting it. That lasted long enough for me to make it direct from the store to the Magic City Gun Club range - minutes, actually! Shoot it - enjoy it - if it continues to bother you, call S&W and they will likely swap it. Be sure the s/n matches the box and your receipt, of course.

I shot mine again today - with the S&W Dymondwood Combat grips - fourth different grip. My OEM Eagles were picked up the next week - and returned to S&W by that Wednesday - still nothing from S&W on that. I think I like my non fg rounded Ahrends best. Hard to say - it feels good with any of them, although it's been a while since I had those OEM Eagle boots.

I did take the sideplate off. Found a stout trigger rebound spring - swapped it for a 13#. The innards were dry as a bone - a drop of Breakfree/CLP on trigger & hammer axis, rebound block, etc. The trigger was noticeably improved. The OEM 'ribbed' hammer leaf pops any primer - and seems lite enough.

Congratulations on your UDR PC 625/7 - now enjoy it!

No big deal - Someone just grabbed the wrong frame out of a pile when they put on the barrel - lots of mis-marked guns out there. Just enjoy your gun and shoot it often!

I would send it back to S&W for the correct markings. A lot of people do not want mis-marked guns like this.
