Default 642 Power Port opinions

I have been looking to buy a 442 J-frame for CC and a local Gun Shop has a new 642 PP Pro on sale for $75 more than a regular 442. Does any one that has one have a reason I should not buy the ported model over the regular one? I happen to like ported guns and own a 66 Carry Comp and have a magna ported Ruger SP 101. I really like the sights on the Power Port and the extra $$ would justify that to me. Just want some opinons.

I don't own any ported handguns and don't really see porting as benefit on close quarters defense handguns.

With that being said, I came real close to buying one of the new pinto J frames that have the Magna-porting just to see what it was like. When I went back to buy one, they had raised the price over $100 so I passed.

You already own a ported firearm.

You already like that ported firearm.

Just go buy your 642Pro.

The opinions of 10,000 forum members, 90%+ of which have no experience with ported firearms, should not outweigh the view you have already formed from actual use of the one that you own.

I agree that a bunch of opinions don't really matter but I will add mine just for the heck of it.
I love my 642 pp. It is my first choice when I leave the house, although I have other J frames to choose from. I know that some believe the porting is detrimental and will not argue with them. What I do know is that I find this gun to be the most controllable of my J frames for followup shots.

I recently bought a 642 PP and traded a 442 for it. The main reason was the front sight and that made a big improvement for me. I am not sure how effective the port is on such a short barrel but don't care. The barrel on the PP is longer and heavier which works better for me. I shoot the SB GD + P 135’s out of it and it seems like the prefect combination. With that ammo there is very little muzzle flash.

I bought one about three weeks ago and I really like it. I had the chance to shoot it back-to-back against a 442 and a LCR, the 642 PP is much easier to make a follow up shot with. The muzzle flip was much reduced as compared to the other two. I shot 158gr +p and 135gr +p from all three and the 642 pp was just a lot easier to control, not that any of them were difficult.

I got a steal when I bought mine, it was new and the shop had installed a Trijicon front sight already. With the price I got it for I was prepared to just sell it if I did not like it, but it is definatly a keeper.

I wasn't looking for this but then again it just happened.
So far so good the 2 1/8 inch wont seat in the 7/18 holster all the way.
But it works.
