Value of new Model 40-1? (UPDATE)
I have been admiring a Model 40-1 at a local gun shop. The gun appears to have been demo'd a bit but that shouldn't be a factor whether or not I make a purchase.
I have not yet started to work up a deal on the gun but it is priced at $660 before taxes. Do you feel as though this is a good price or have an opinion of it's value?
Thanks in advance for your input.
This is like the one I'm viewing:

I ended up winning a bid for this gun on gunbroker.com. The winning bid w/shipping is $200.00 less than the price I referenced above. Once I take ownership, I will post photos.

Congrats on your Model 40. We share the same taste in revolvers.
I just won a bid last week on a new nickle 40. I'm hoping to take possession by this Friday.

Absolutely. You too.
From what I gather, there's only a hand full of members that have 40s. I've seen a few early flat latch 40s and one or two early [airweight] 42s. A few more re-intro 40s like yours and mine.
DO you have a holster in mind?? It appears that any J-Frame rig will work. I have one on order with Ray [Lobo Gun Leather].
Now Grips,...THAT'S another thing..!!!

I have an order in with Lobo on a different gun, it should be in within the next two weeks or so. I'll see how that one turns out before I decide on the 40. The one I'm getting does come with a galco pocket holster.

Great deal, for sure. I think the Galco sells for about $45.
I ordered a model 1 pancake and a matching speedstrip pouch. ETA is in 4 weeks.

Very nice, deercop.
Spegel is amoung the very few grip makers that makes grips for the the 40/42 series centennial. Most custom grip makers I've contacted either do not offer grips, or they require the weapon shipped to them to carve out a set.

One of the favorite styles of S&W. This original 40 dates to 1972. I'm not sure how many were made, but they are getting harder to find. I feel it's because owners don't want to part with them.
I have a Lobo for a 2" J Frame, that fits my 60, 36, 940, and this 40.

I've got the full set. 40-1 in plain blue steel, nickel, and color case hardened. Also have a companion 42-1 airweight. Am looking for 40 and 42 no dashes right now.

FYI, I've started a Thread dedicated to the Model 40/42. I named it: The Definitive Model 40/42 Thread.
It's located at the "S&W Revolvers: 1961 to 1980" category. Feel free to post photos there, too.
THANKS.
