Default S&W 11 DEGREE FORCING CONE

GOOD MORNING! DOES ANYONE KNOW IF S&W REVOLVERS, AND SPECIFICALLY MODEL 29S /OR 629S HAVE A 11 DEGREE BARREL FORCING CONE. THIS IS MY FIRST NEW THREAD, SO PLEASE BEAR WITH ME. THANKS, TOM

Hi Tom,
The S&W's you mention do not have the 11 degree angle in the forcing cone.
The 11 degree forcing cone was developed for PPC revolvers, shooting lead wadcutters. The theory being that the shallower angle introduced less stress to the projectile as it entered the rifling.
The standard S&W angle is around 18 degrees from memory.

HEY TWIST... THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. COME TO THINK OF IT, THE 11 DEGREE REVOLVER FORCING CONE WAS ALL THE RAGE DURING MY PPC COMPETITION TIME PERIOD---HOW TIME FLIES! THANKS AGAIN, TOM

As I see it, most of what I look at seems to have what appears to be a 7 or 8 degree forcing cone. In the past I used an 11 degree cutter to clean up forcing cones that needed it in .44 and .45 cal. and a 5 degree cutter for .357. Now I use 5 degree cutters for everything. It cleans up the forcing cone without increasing the diameter of the breach end of the barrel. The 11 degree cutter will often increase the diameter of the mouth of the barrel more than I really wanted.
