New 686 SSR! WOW
I just picked up a new 686 SSR last Sunday, and I took it to the range for the first time today. This is one bad mammajamma!
Holy smokes I could not believe my eyes when I saw where the first shot printed. It is extremely accurate, and what a magnificent trigger. Both Single Action, and Double Action were a dream. I struck gold with this weapon. I love it as much as my 5 inch Performance Center model 627. They are both awesome. All in all I feel that the Pro Series 686 SSR is a handier gun, but I still love that big 8 shooter equally as much. **** now I need the model 60 Pro! Then it's on to allocating some .44 mags. I need to win the dang lotto or something. Any body know where I can find a sweet holster for the 686 SSR? I would like to get several for it. A Black, and a brown OWB, as well as at least one IWB. A little big for IWB for some folks, but I have carried comfortably that size weapon in that manner before. Please advise on holsters. Thanks!!

It may take a bit more than that! I think I may need to medicate with a few more of Smith and Wesson's finest. Love these jokers. I got several Autos as well but no S&W Auto's. I had a Sigma years ago, but trded it off. Perhaps a sweet ne M&P is in my future as well! I have so damn many guns but never too many!

Know how you feel. I love my 6 inch 686 as well as my 681. Both are great shooters.

Great gun. Have you ever shot IDPA with it? That is what it was designed for.

I have the 2.5-inch variant on lay-away and I’m ordering the forged parts from the SSR as time permits. It is an impressive model for sure. Still, I’m more partial to k-frames but I'll somehow get over it.

Any L-frame holster will work. I use a Bianchi Black Widow, I think it is listed as a 5A and a Galco Phoenix. These two rigs take care of most of my needs.

I have never shot IDPA with it or any other. However I may soon. The guy that works at the range I go to does, and he's always telling me to come out with him to a match. I never have because I know I'll be hooked!

As you can tell from my log-in name, I cannot say enough good things about the 686SSR. The accuracy, quality of the trigger and looks are impressive.
I purchased a GALCO Dual Position Phoenix - right hand model (Code PHX104). The holster is suede-lined to help protect the revolver's finish. The leather is extremely thick and flawless. And, the holster has two tension adjustment screws. Be sure to take a look at these.
I hope this helps.
By the way, because the 686SSR is so nice, I now want to try a 60 Pro too.

Available where? I think that would be a nice additional rig.

Glad you like your 686. They are the greatest, I have Bauer Bros. model Z34 that I have worn daily for years. The problem you are going to encounter now is the need for a reloading press, I can see a Dillion 650 in your future.
