Default Trigger guard block?

Please forgive my ignorance I'm new to the whole wheelgun thing and couldn't find any info on this via google.

I picked up a 686-5 last week and it has what I can only assume is a trigger lock/block on the bottom of the trigger guard. It looks like a metal button with two dots that appear to be where some sort of key would plug in to turn it in and block the trigger from moving.

Can someone give me some info on this, is it factory, where could I get a key, can it be removed, and why did someone do this?

Sounds like a trigger lock. Can you post a picture of it. That would help. Don

You're missing the key. You will probably have to make a key. Shouldn't be too hard to do. You can buy the entire lock for under $3.00 here: http://www.wirelessivity.com/008-286...GGER_LOCK.html

I wish I could post a pic but I've lost the USB cable to my camera somewhere, its not like the locks they give you when you buy a gun. It is about the size and shape of a shirt button but is attached to the bottom of the trigger guard. It looks like when you turn it in a small piece of metal protrudes up under the trigger keeping it from being pulled back. It is not enganged right now and the gun fires just fine, I was just curious about it because I've never seen one before.

Rehydrating this thread. Does anyone know what LuddhaBuddha was talking about? I found a revolver with one of these and can't tell if its factory or not.
