617-1
just picked up some nice K frame combats from ironman40 to put on my 617-1.
was taking off the old rubbers and slipping on the combats and saw these markings in the grip frame. ideas on why these were stamped in this manner?
and a couple of obligatory photos wearing the new combats. could almost pass for a no dash now
thanks ironman40.

Hell yeah!!!! Nice catch on the the Combats...and a 4" to boot. I like the very unique wood grain.

thanks jughed. i love the grain on this set of grips too.
i couldn't be happier with the whole thing.
i picked up this 617-1 within the last 6 months at a LGS and have been casually looking for combats since.
i used to have a perfect 617 no dash with factory combats and box, docs etc and sold it thinking it deserved to be in someone's collection.
this -1 without box and now dressed up with these combats fits all my needs and leaves a little fun gun money for something else.
its the first and best revolver to share with friends who go shooting for the first time.

Regarding the stampings on the lower grip frame:
One or more of the "S" stampings may indicate stainless steel. If you see any of those numbers repeated on the yoke arm, an assembly number. The rest are mysterious assembler, fitter or inspector codes. Enjoy that gun!

The same assembly number will be on the back side of the side plate, too.
The frame, yoke, and side plate are mated parts.
