Default Recieved my letter, I'm confused.

Updated as of September 13, 2010

Got my letter, now I’m confused.

So awhile back I posted about this Model 19-7 I had purchased. It is a performance center pistol and I’m very pleased with it. I lettered it and as the letter indicates it is one of 55 that went to Lew Horton in 1995.

The confusion is in the barrel length, the letter states that it was shipped with a 2.5” barrel. Additionally the letter closes with “The computer print out for this serial number does not match your revolver” What does this mean?

My pistol clearly has a 3” barrel (I just measured it from forcing cone to the end of the barrel). Additionally, doesn’t a 2.5” barrel have the shorter ejection rod? So does this mean that my revolver was rebarred with a 3” barrel and fitted with a longer ejection rod.

To add confusion to the story, a member here has the exact same model 19-7 (see http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-rev...-models-2.html ) and it has the same barrel etc. as mine. Is this perhaps a modification that was done by Lew Horton. So anyhow, any info/insight anyone might have will be apprecieated.

Copies of the letter and computer print out are below.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I got lucky recently and was able to purchase several pistols this month.

Firstly was a Smith 65-5 Ladysmith. This pistol had been abused hard. Someone had taken a file to all the edges and really bunged it up. I had it bead blasted and now you would never know there had been a problem.

Now, the other I found is a 19-7 Performance Center pistol. It has the nicest trigger on any of my Smiths by far; it is DAO and has a bobbed hammer. The SN is LHA0XX which I believe is a Lew Horton Pistol. I have seen pictures here of K-Comps, and they have a different compensator situation, front sights, and a I believe a traditional SA/DA hammer as compared to this pistol. Has this one meen modified, or did it come from the performance center this way? Either way, I'm really happy. Any info on this pistol is appreciated; also any thoughts on the value would be appreciated.

Also, can anyone give me some pointers as to remove the lead build-up on the sides of the front sight? I guess lead ammo is a no-no for compensated pistols.

Both of them very desirable Smiths; but the 19-7 is a real looker. Anytime you want to get rid of it let me know.

Two fine revolvers. I think the 65 Ladysmith is one of the finest revolvers S&W ever made.

Question
Does the 19-7 have a 3" 586 barrel?
Not meaning to start anything. I just picked up a 3" 586 and it has the same barrel. I've seen some 3" 66's and the barrel looks different.
TIA

Hey Fatcat1, I don't think the 19-7 has a 586 barrel but I suppose anything is possible. How can I tell?

I'm guessing because its a Performance Center revolver, it is probably not a 586 barrel. Does your have the same kind of porting?

Prof Frink

Mine is not ported. I assumed (yea I know) the 19 would have the same lug as a 66. You have 2 excellent pistols there and I'm jealous of you. If you listen to alot of people complain that there is never good finds at gunshows, well this one was on a table for over 6 hours when I saw it. I waited to get my brother to look up some info and 2 hours later I bought it. I've always wanted a 3" 66. Guess this will curb the urge till I find one. I don't know how to post pics or I'd put them up.

Default 3" 19

Hey FatCat....so good to see you on the forum. How was your one year research job in the Southern Ocean ?? Realize that your covert activity is not commonly discussed so either PM or better yet call. Having seen your 586 3" and looking at the 19-7 I would sure agree that sans the ports the barrels look just the same. Isn't it amazing the variants we sometimes stumble onto. Again great to see your post....are you off for the "sandbox" soon ? Doc give me a call....
