2.5" mod 66 identification
Got this good looking 2.5"bbl model 66-2 and can't figure out which is the serial number so I can date it. Usually it's three letters and four numbers,at least from what I've seen. The only serial# I see is at the bottom of the grip are 3 numbers, the letter K and 3 other numbers. Inside the cylinder arm are 5 numbers and nothing above the model number. Can anyone date this and tell me if these are the right numbers?

Serial number will be on bottom of butt. Let us know that number, including letters, and someone can help you out.

The first couple years of the Model 66-2 still had a "K" serial number.

The 3 digit/K/3 digit serial numbers were from sometime in 1981 to 1983. If you can tell us the first 3 digits we can give you the year it was probably made.

I've had the exact pistol as pictured above ( including the Pachmayer compac grips) for about 17 years.
My gun's serial # is: 217K5(XX). would someone be kind enough to let me know the approximate build date?

Mod 66s are just cool looking revolvers. Enjoy yours, I know I have mine. IMO-they look better with a nice set of wood combat stocks.

I also bought one of these recently. Mine is a -7 with the dreaded lock but ~man~ what a nice shooter. The Uncle Mike boot grips on it are the first of that kind I've had and they're very comfortable.
