Well a 686, 586, 627, 57, 58 would all work in my opinion. Honestly though I am much more comfortable with my PPQ in .40 along side my Daniel Defense M4 V1. More ammo capacity keeps you in the fight longer.
I have thought about a .357 lever gun paired with a 627 though.

Well, my 625JM shown in a sea of .45 ACPs earlier, got a pal to share my usual 240+ loaded moonclips with - a Governor. That revolver definitely has a 'Medusa'-like appetite, taking .45 Schoffield, .45 Colt, and 2.5" .410 shotgun, as well as moonclipped .45 ACPs, all six at a time. It's Al/Sc frame, SS cylinder & 2.75" barrel, 29.7 oz weight (empty), and fixed sights (Tritium Night Sight on front.) adding to it's attributes. It may be the ultimate survival revolver. Here it is with my 642-2 for size comparison:



I still toy with the utility of a .38/.357M 8-shooter - like my PC627 UDR & 627 Pro, as well as a .22 LR revolver. For that, I think the mobility of my 3" 63 might give it the nod over my 4" 617. While CCI Stingers would be more effective, cleaner shooting ammo has it's merits. My 4" 651, a x6 .22 WMR, has merit, too, as it gets some boost from the extra powder. It also gets filthy faster - and there is the ammo availability, too. Decisions...

I suppose the best thing to have is a revolver you both are intimately familiar with it's attributes and have sufficient ammo reserves to fit. Gotta admit, the Governor's variable palate makes it attractive!

I'm sorry but my answer is not a S&W revolver........If I had to choose a revolver I actually own, I would have to go with 9.5" .44 Magnum Super Redhawk, with the 6.5x scope. I can use it as a close to intermediate (100+ yards) weapon and still carry it on a belt. Of course with a backpack full of ammo.

A .38 Special as a primary combat weapon, in this "zombie" scenario would have little advantage since a .38 Special is roughly similiar to a 9mm in power. If you're carrying a wheelgun, you want to have something a semi-auto can't offer, like the power of a .357 or .44 Magnum. A hit pretty much anywhere with a .44 is going to take a bad guy out of the fight.

And my rifle would be one of my AR-15's.

s&w model 60-15 3 inch barrel or s&w model 36 2 inch barrel.

If I'm limited to just a handgun, I want something that can be used at longer ranges if need be.

If "last ditch" means grabbing one gun and going, then that would be my Model 27-2. If it means a concealed carry gun when everything else has gone wrong, that duty falls to the 649 .38 Special.

Any Revolver that was depenable and I had ammo for.
When the Brown Stinking Stuff hits the fan, is not the time to pick and choose.

Last ditch, even a .25acp feels like the Hammer of Thor compared to having nothing.

Big fan of the 1911, commander size specifically.

Other than that, large slugs at moderate speed give me a warm fuzzy feeling. I have a 3" 44Spl and a 3" 44mag, both round butt and made for social situations.

Recently I bought a 3" 65-5 and a 1 7/8" 36 ND. These are pretty fine for concealment and pack a lot of area deniability.

My bullet of choice is a home cast SWC or TC. I don't place much faith in HP's since they are hit or miss on expansion at moderate velocities. Cast penetrates all the time and a big metplat insures a transfer of energy. If they are good enough for dangerous game, they are surely adequate for thin skinned two legged predators.

I have done more or less the same, but with an airweight Chief first, and later an airweight Centennial, rather than a Bodyguard.

I'll take my brand new 629 in my chest holster, paired with my Marlin 1894 in .44 on my back. 17 rounds of .44 loaded, 10 on the stock and 6 on my chest should get me out of harm's way.

Best pocket gun and last ditch back up, 442 Smith & Wesson. I also carry a Ruger LCR357.

Let me tell you sir in all honesty,

Get a solid revolver from S&W in 357 Magnum (6-8 shots- can't be too careful) with at least 2.5 to max 5" barrel.

I got a 627 Pro (its sweet) makes me question the terrible marksmanship at the range of of many other shooters and non-civilians.

My S&W 627 Proudly out does its duty even at the outdoor range. The mini me version of this gun is the U.D.R. Soon, I hope i will own one.

I live in Central Illinois so I don't have to worry about griz, only 2 legged bad guys. I'll leave my 44 behind and chose my 8 shot 627 Pro. If you don't mind I'd also like to have my Marlin 1894 along for the ride. 357 of course.
