Speedloaders for an 8 shot 627-3
I purchased a Performance Center 8 shot 627-3 a couple years back and am wondering if you folks know if anybody makes speedloaders for this. I found some on the Thunder Ranch website but they're about $60 each, a little more than I want to spend! The full moon clips work great with factory loads but my handloads have a slight bulge where the bullet is seated and the moon clips just don't work. You can't completely chamber the cartridges. Without the moon clips they chamber just fine. I use a Lee carbide sizer die and RCBS expand and seat/ crimp dies. I spoke with customer service at S&W and was told that it was fine to shoot without the clips, although the fact the the ejector rod is too short to completely eject the cases without the clips is something I'll still have to work out.

Try 5starfirearms.com for metal 8 shot speedloaders for 24.95. I have not got around to ordering any yet, myself, but probably will soon.
I like the looks of them, but don't know how well they work. Maybe someone else here has some experience with them.

I would first suggest you get a Lee Factory Crimp Die for the .38/.357. This will insure that you won't have a bulge sizable enough to interfere with loading. They are not expensive. I use them for nearly all my pistol and revolver cartridges.
When you get yours, be sure and seat the bullet with the bullet seating die and crimp ONLY with the Lee Factory Crimp die.

I bought a pair of the 5 star speedloaders for the S&W .500. The 8 shot .357 loaders were out of stock at the time or I would have gotten couple of those, too.
The .500 loaders work very well and are nicely finished. They appear to be a quality product.

627 Reloading
I have a 2000 S&W 627 in the PC , I use a Dillon Reloader with there dies , and load 38 spl. and have no problems using moon clips. I use TK CUSTOM moon clips with Remington brass ONLY.
I would spend the money and get the Dillon dies .

Moon clips are brass manufacturer sensitive. You can use RP, Federal with no problem. Starline will fit and will be a little loose. Hearthco makes special clips for Starline brass.
TKCustom.com sells the clips. 10 for $59.95
You can buy cheap ones from Ranch Products that may or may not work with your brass.
Stay with RP and Federal headstamps and you can't go wrong.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'll try the Lee factory crimp dies as I really like the moon clips. I've got a 625 and a couple 610's that I have had no troubles with and part of the draw with the 627 was so that I could use the clips.

There are two speedloader out the, 5 star and Thunder Ranch. The 5 star are a bit looser. The rounds rattle a bit. The Thunder Ranch is far tighter and more positive lock up but it is posistion sensative to load, one side is flat. And Waaay more expensive!
Have moon clips too...all seem brass rim sensative for my Winchester brass...
