My favorite 3-inch started life as a new Lou Horton back about 1985. I didn't care for the stocks and let myself get talked into the matt nickle finish when 300 Gunsmithing Service did the action job. It's cost me far more than it's worth but, it's not going anywhere either.

Many cool 3-inchers continue to show up here. I'm not the only one who likes 'em! Regardless of the model, 3-inch (and 3-1/2") barrels just seem to make the gun special.

My recent purchase for $700. I probably paid too much, however I never saw a P&R 3" 66 before.

WANTS

4" M13
4" M10 HB
4" M15

If the madness really has a hold on you I'd also take a 58

I don't hn that a three inch madness is anything new....
Years , as a very young man, I was reading Combat Handguns magazines all the time and a three inch modle 13 and 65 were VERY popular packing pistols.

Today I own three : All pre lock , pre mim guns:
A three inch CS-1 686 , Three inch 1981 model 65 and three inch 1984 model 66.

I carry 65 the most.

A three inch 38/357 stainless revolvers with adjustable sights ( or fixed sights that shoot to the point of aim) are very good general use handguns.

I had to let my two 3" 65's go to feed the divorce attorney.

I still have the 3" 586-5 PC L-comp, 3" 66-2, 3" 66-4, 3" 64-3, and 3" 13-3.

I'll probably still pick up another 3" 65 down the road. Regards 18DAI.

I've been queer for 3-inchers for years, have added several in the past few years. It was nice to have cash available when I found them, that doesn't happen very often!

The star of the stable, and my ONLY safe queen, is this pristine 36-1, found languishing in a seedy gunshop/range in St Louis. She got my first pair of Spegels, and inspired me to order more.

There's also a nice new 686-6, I just ignore the lock and enjoy the way it handles. I heard a rumor last November that they were going to do a run of these, and placed my order on the spot. Got it this past April. No safe queen here, this one gets shot more than anything except my duty gun!

I don't have the t-grip on it in this pic but it feels great these k frames. I'm going with the 36 for carry but this would be my field carry whenever I have that opportunity.

As a shopping first-time buyer trying to decide between a 3" or 4" 686+, I'm really enjoying the pics. Thanks all.

If you could only have one gun for basic home defense and hiking/camping, would you choose a 3" or 4"?

3inch for me, easier to conceal, and it just seems to be the right size on my m13-4..

I have owned a shotgun for years, but I recently purchased my very first pistol. It is a blued 357 Model 13-4 and I have taken it to the range once so far to shoot 38 specials and I am very happy with it. The only modifications I have done is to replace the wood grips with rubber ones and I took some bright orange finger nail polish to put on the front sight since I had some problems aiming in low lighting against a dark colored target.

On a side note, I have been reading this forum for about month for research in purchasing a pistol, but this is my first post on here.

A little late to this party, but what the heck...
Here's my two...

A 3" 64 and a 3" 66... I had a 3" 13 but sold it to a good friend for what I paid for it... 275.00 (!) Had a 3" Lew Horton 629 but it just didn't feel as good as my Mountain Guns, so it's gone.

The revolver I covet most right now is my dad's 36, with a 3" full underlug, matte blue finish and adjustable sights. I've tried everything and he won't come off it.

Pay attention to your dad, the old fart's smarts might rub off on you more.

If I had it to do over again, I would have purchased more 3-inchers! They were easier to find and sometimes dealers had several pre-owned versions of them in stock, such as M65s. I had the chance to buy more than one at a time, several times, but didn't. How dumb was that? Sure glad I have at least one!

Maybe not, with TT and TH, and the combats are going for around $200 alone, in some areas.

I just picked up a 3" 65-5 for $125.00. Dealer sold it to me at the trade in price he allowed. The hammer was bobbed a little uneven and he decided it wouldn't bring much anyway.
I also picked up a Kimber Desert Warrior with a SF X200 for $500.00 from an individual recently.

There are still deals to be had out there. You just have to be patient and have the coin in hand to jump on them.

LOL, sound advice, Old Navy!

Funny thing is that I talked him into buying that gun about 15 years ago... we were at a gun show and I saw it... he was looking for something light to pack in the woods and leaning towards a regular 2" M36. His has the full underlug barrel, adjustable sights and a target trigger/hammer and a bead-blast finish and I knew it'd be perfect for him.

When I got my SCSW I discovered that they only made about 600 like that... Super sweet revolver!

My 3" Pre model 30 4 screw 32 S&W

Saw a 3" stainless J frame w/lock today for $450 out the door but grabbed a nice heavy barrel model 10 for $ 285 instead.

It's not a 3" but this 4" 15-3 is just to pretty to not show.

Here is my one and only wheelgun. I picked it up a little while back, it came with the PC case and papers. It does not look like she has had too many rounds down the barrel, I'll be taking her out tomorrow...

Smile 3 inch 65 and 696

I have a nice 3 inch model 65 that was issued to the Georgia Parole Board and a model 696 no dash that is also mint,I'm very lucky to have found both weapons at a very reasonable price.
