Me too. It's a great shooter with a smooth action. I wish I had another with a 2 1/2", round butt.

I have a 586 no dash with 8 3/8 inch barrel and adjustible front sight and I think it's a great gun. I also have a 686 no dash with 6 inch barrel. I love them both and they are excellent shooters.

I have two .357 Distinguished Combat Magnums,
They both have 4" Barrels and are 586 no dash models.
Nickel is AAE SN code , Blue is AJJ,.... Early to mid 80's I believe.
Only one has had the hammer nose mod done by the factory indicated by the "M" stamp in the yoke.
Love them both.

My 586 is by far the most balanced gun I own. If just want to shoot rounds, I shoot a 9mm because of the cost. While my 629 is a "blast" to shoot, the 586 is the most fun because its so well balnced in my opinion.

I bought a 686 brand new about 15 years ago, but I just recently traded for a 586 no dash with 4" barrel. The action on it is as smooth as silk. It shoots like a dream.

I bought a new 586 with a 6” barrel back in the late nineties; beautiful gun and the trigger was smooth as silk straight out of the box. I sold it a few years ago and have regretted it ever since.

I adopted a 586 last week, 6" with a Patridge front sight. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet but I did change the grips.
I have other handguns I haven't been able to fire yet as well so a range trip is in the near future.

I've got two; a no dash and a dash-1. The top one here is a new 686P. The 586's are as smooth as glass. The 686 is also excellent.

I came into a 586-4 a few months ago. I'd been without a Smith for about 6 years and decided that if one of these ever came my way, I'd fight for it.
I find that I am carrying it more and more. With the right holster, it's very, very comfortable.

I owned a Nickel 586 6" BBL, Pachmayr grips that was a FL State Trooper's Gun...sold it when it was the last thing I had left of any value a long time ago,
I replaced it last year with a 6" Blue model A0 SN prefix, no dash...it outshoots my Python!

I've had a few over the years........I've always liked the L-frame guns and prefer the blued ones.
I currently have two M-586 No Dashes. One of them is a very early one with a DOB of 1980 (AAA62xx serial number). The other one is a 1983 model and is one of my favorites to carry on hikes or just when I'm kicking around in the woods.

I love shooting this 586. Kurac's grips help a lot with full power loads.

586-1M purchased at gun show in the early 90's. Very smooth double action. If the police market wouldnt have changed to semi autos the L frame would be the standard bearer.

Certainly one of the better balanced pieces out there.
I love mine... tough choice for me now Colt 1911 Series 70 or S&W 586 no dash 4".

I think the L-frame is just right for the .357 Mag. I have a four inch 586 plus, looks a bit weird with that extra hole in the wheel but is a good shooter!

No dash 4" here. I don't have any pretty pictures but y'all know what one looks like. Add an action job, chamfered charge holes, ball-detent on the crane and some Ahrends Combat FG grips. Like buttahh.

I always loved the Model 19. I bought my first 586 when the shop I would haunt, brought in it's first one. It became mine and since then, the 586 is still my favorite 357.

I bought the first 6" 586 (no dash) to hit the Memphis area in 1980. I'm sad to say that S&W screwed this one up. The gun shot low and left despite any sight adjustment. Groups looked more like patterns. On its second trip back to the factory I wrote a really nasty letter saying the gun's only use was as a paper weight! I guess they paid attention that time because what I got back was the best shooting .357 I've ever owned. I'll never part with it.
And no, I never had the factory modification made. Never had any problem with it.
I also have a 4" 586-3 that I bought used maybe 15 years ago. The previous owner had it worked over by Phoenix Armory. I got the paperwork with the gun. Action job, recut forcing cone, chamfered cylinder, the whole shootin' match!
I use this when I shoot SSR class in IDPA. Great gun!

Everyone should own a 586. Mine's a special run 586-7. Just a beautiful gun that shoots as good as it looks. Very accurate. Fantastic (typical S&W) trigger. Love it.

My 586 no dash is the best balanced revolver I own, and is a joy to shoot. It has replaced my well used and beloved M-19 as one of my "ready" guns.

Wow, a 2009 post comes back to life! I'll play too. I just got a 586 no dash on a trade from another member. Very clean, and a good shooter. Is a no dash 4". Right up up there with my other favorites. Wonder what the 8 incher would be like??? Bob

Here's my 6" 586 that was bought in the first year of production - AAA series sn. This gun was used to gain my NRA Police Distinguished Badge. High front Patridge sight that allows for a 50 yd neck hold on the B27 target. Great, accurate gun with an unbelievable action.

I had one in Texas but it was stolen. I loved mine and have been looking for a four inch for some time now. I always wanted one after seeing it the hands of the villain in Lethal Weapon 3. He does have a model 29 for mos t of the movie, but he pulls one on the Captin when he kidnaps him.

I might as well go ahead and start to use/carry mine now. I saved the gun but the box and "stuff" was lost in the fire.

Here's mine. I bought it quite a while ago and haven't had the time to shoot it yet (work gets in the way a lot). I carried a four inch 686 as a duty weapon for a number of years before switching to a Beretta 92G. I really like the balance and especially the durability of the "L" frame.
