Question Rear sight blade is loose

Last week after a trip to the range with my 610-3, I noticed that the rear sight blade has become loose. It does not really slide from side to side, but will rock in place (kind of like a teeter totter). Is there any way to tighten this or is there something broke that needs fixed/replaced.

Also while cleaning I noticed that I could hear a very slight "tic" or "rattle" like something inside the side plate was also loose. (It's not the loose sight I'm hearing) It preformed fine at the range, but I don't recall hearing anything loose prior to this.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Most of the sight blades on my Smith move the way you describe. Since it is usually more of a forward to rear rocking motion, accuracy doesn't seem to be effected. It just seems to be the nature of the design.

The rattle you are hearing is probably the hammer block. This is also normal. Sounds like you have a normal Smith and Wesson revolver. None better.

Adjustable sights will loosen up over time. Getting whacked on door jams, as well as heavy recoiling loads will cause them to eventually become too loose to be serviceable. They can be rebuilt with a kit sold by the gunsmith supply house, Brownells.

Zero the gun, then squirt a little blue Loctite into the sight body and let it cure. The blade won't move any more.

Mine all rock back and forth like that.
My advice: leave it alone.

If it moves too much to suit you, replace it. Cost is minimal and it takes less than 5 minutes.
