Price check 617&629
My local shop has 2 guns that Im looking at getting
1. 617 no dash 8 3/8s with wood combat grips around a 85-90% gun for 600. It has no box I was wondering if this is high I just want it to go along with my 617 no dash 6 in
2. 629 Classic Hunter 8 3/8 with no box around 90% for 750. This I want to go with my 6in classic hunter 629 and 686.
If I get both it would give me 8 in guns in .22 44 and 357 but let me know what you think on these prices.

Both guns are fairly priced; not great deals but good deals especially if you like the long barrels. Add that those lengths are not made any more and they're even more desirable. Great hunting guns with those tubes, both!

Speaking of no dash 617's with the 8 3/8" barrel, how uncommon are these? I saw one posted in the classifieds and the seller indicated they were hard to find, sure, it may be advertising on his part, but I figured he was probably right. I have one with the factory wood combats and as one who likes shooting long barreled revolvers, it's one of my favorite .22's to shoot. Just wondering if it's another run-of-the-mill smith or it is a relatively rare gun.

I think the prices on both of the guns are fair. I a little puzzled by the 617 being 85 to 90% condition as these are usually found in higher condition than that. The nice thing about a stainless gun is if it has a few rub marks or light scratches a little elbow grease and mother’s mag cleaner will make it look like new but it will be shiny.
Generally speaking 8 3/8 inch barrels are made in less quantities then the 4 or 6 inch barrels because they don't sell all that well. I don't know how much less that quantity is and I've heard quotes that they are 10 to 15% of the revolvers made in a model.
The funny thing is no matter what model I was looking for I've never had a problem finding an 8 3/8 barreled version. I think that's because they don't sell all that well and they end up hanging around the dealers at the gun shows or in the stores longer than the other barrel lengths.

Those barrel lengths are not as popular as others. I love to shoot them but they are harder to carry but are excellent range and hunting guns Those prices are in line I suppose but a good haggler like you can do a little Haggling maybe. Who knows? Maybe get a holster or a box or two of ammo.

There are no "common" to the used market 617's. That's why when people find a used one at almost any price less than the cost(whatever that may be in your area) of a new one they automatically snap it up. I'm not even looking for a 617 right now but I'd buy a nice used one if I saw it at any of my local shops(I don't know if you can ever have too many!). 6" is what you usually see if you see any at all with the 4" and 8 3/8" almost nonexistant used. That's just the way it is with them.

Thanks, guys.
I agree the 8 3/8" guns are hard to carry, etc, but with the long sight radius, they sure shoot well.

I'm currently buying a new 629 8 3/8" from BudsGunShop for $701. Every few months they'll have them for that price.
Good luck
