it's a reference to the design/shape/style of grips; in that they loosely mimic the flare (palm swell) of an old-school Coca Cola bottle. If you remember those.

Sorry, up there in post #89 I guess I didn't read the instructions very well
and posted Taurus and Colts, 3 out of 5, with grips that I kinda like.
Here are 3 S&Ws to make up for my blunder. Left to right:
S&W 642 I have tried several different grips but always come back to
the original issue, Uncle Mike's Spegel designed boot grips. Full size
is better for shooting, but these boots are the best for concealment.
S&W model 27 wearing Jerry Miculek's competition grips.
S&W model 29 with Herrett's Deluxe Coco-Bolo with medalians.

My favorite grips so far are the Patrick Grashorn grips on my Nickel finish 586 no dash. They aren't the most comfortable with more than a few dozen full power 357 magnum rounds as even with a T grip my knuckle takes a beating but for carrying, Looking good and feeling great. they can't be beat. If i plan on shooting lots of full power magnum rounds i put a set of wood target grips on.

Please forgive the T grip, it was a black one and i spent many an hour sanding and polishing it to make it look right at home on this gun.

My favorite set of genuine S&W grips came with the 617 I bought new. The are now on my blued 586-4 as a replacement for its ugly factory rubber.
Favorite aftermarket S&W grips are the Hogue fancy hardwood round to square conversion grip on my 17-8. They were on the gun when I bought it, with the OE rubber in the box.

That looks like a great marriage on the 587.

I'm not sure what the smooth rosewood's are called. The other targets came with my 629-1 that wears the old thin Pacmyers that is in my wife's nightstand with full bore 240gr. HP's.

I don't know, these feel just fine to me. Not the least bit uncomfortable even with full power loads.
