Saw a 617, opinions?
I just saw 617, 6 inch going for $475. Is that a good deal. I checked it and it looked good. The grips were not identifiable and there is no box or anything else. Should I jump on this one?

That price sounds decent for most any good, solid 617.
By the way, what is the dash/number after the 617 ?

The 22lr revolvers are in very high demand. If the 617 is in good shape, both mechanically and cosmetic, that looks like a good price.
You could look at the ones listed on the auction sites to see what a similar one is selling for. Look for the closed sales and not just the open auctions.

It is a six shot. I don't remember what dash but it did not have a lock. I'm going back to look at it again, hopefully it is still there.

People are paying a whole lot more for pre-lock guns.
If I needed one, I would buy it at that price.

I'd say if its in good condition it's a decent buy at $475. I bought a 34-1 3 weeks ago for $460 and it was one of only two used S&W 22's I've seen for sale in my area in over a year plus. A local shop has a new 617 4" for $699+tax and a new 17 for $729. Both are IL guns.

In this part of the world that's a super price. Buy it now or regret it later.

My opinion is... that you'll be lucky if it's still there!

If you do not yet have a 22 revolver it makes a great addition to anyone's collection. The cost seems a bit high on the price (at least to me in Ohio); I have seen S&W 38s and 357 going for at (or less) than that price at many (different) gun shows. The 22s are more popular than ever due to ammo prices being so high and this might be driving the 22 gun prices up - I have not priced a 617 recently. I gave a six shot Lady Smith 617 to wife many years ago and have never regretted buying it and she loves it. The firearm should come with a nice, lockable box, gun lock and very nice-looking wood grips. You might check with S&W and ask them what the original items would cost to have replaced; then talk to the seller and see if they would drop the cost that amount. That would be a reasonable request, in my opinion.

That would be a good price in Central Illinois and it would go for more than that if the box and papers were all there. You know it can't be worn out.
