Default Would you consider this SB Model 60 to be 'rare'...???...

In the S&W book I have found no reference to the Model 60 being made in 1 7/8" barrel and square butt, while it clearly states RB and SB for M36, 37, etc. Let me know if I missed the M60 SB references. I am only aware of two other SB M60 like this in 40 years of J frame experience, and both of those were seen on the internet. I have personally found and seen on this forum countless examples of other uncommon M60 variants, like the adjustable sight or 3" SB versions. But the one pictured below seems to me to actually qualify as 'rare', based on the very limited number of appearances. What do you think?

I seem to recall that they were a special run for Lew Horton in the 1980s maybe? There is one for sale close to me for $400 and I have been pondering on it.

Rare - yes, extra valuable - no... I recall LH blowing them out because they werent selling very well. I have had a few but the RB was the craze. $400 would be top $$ I would think.

If I ran across one for $400 I'd probably buy it in a heartbeat.

John Jovino had some in the 80s both three inch and 1 7/8 inch barrels. I bought one of the three inch but I traded it off.
They were advertised in Shotgun News.

I agree, although I was not seeking a value. In the past I have posted my opinion that anomalies in J frames do not produce the same degree of increased interest and value as anomalies in K and N frames.

I have been fortunate to find 2 of the 3" SB versions, not sure if the came thru Jovino or not.

That sounds likely, but usually there is a reference in the S&W book to Lew Horton runs, and I could not find one for the SB M60.

Rare or not, still very cool!

Would love to know if a SB Model 60 with the 3" barrel was ever turned out.

They definitely made those, I have found 3 of them in gunshops, but only acquired 2, see pics below. Another question would be did they ever made a 3" RB DA/SA other than the Lady Smith, which is shown in the third picture.
