Smile New to the Forum with request for Info

Hello All,

After seaching all the other sites for some info I felt it best to go to the source for S&W questions with the collection knowledge from the members I hope I found a source for my questions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Recently acquired a couple of revolvers from an ailing stepfathers collection he has decieded to reduce in an effort to head off mounting medical bills.

Mainly looking for a production date and estimated current value for each not that they're going anywhere. Both have never been shot since purchase (other then the factory tests which I'm sure they do before they get out the door). Both are blued and the particulars follow:

Model 29-2 6" barrel SR# N795501 model number then 16337 and a larger stamp F 15

Model 14-4 6" barrel SR# 88K0564 model number then 45219 can't make out the larger stamp

Both are what I would call in 98% condition overall but I'm no expert, just a NRA life member and local gun club member who likes to punch paper from a long ways away.

Any input from the brain trust on this site would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Oh yeah Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to you also. Screw the political version.

can't really help, but it is not a good idea to fill out the Whole Serial # on the gun...just the first 3-4 letters and one digit...Scamers are out there..

N 795501 = 1980
88K0564= 1980 as well

The serial # thing and someone saying you stole thier gun is a bunch of bull. As long as the gun is registered to you, or you have some type of proof of purchase, you have nothing to worry about.

I don't like the idea that some of Big Brother's people may be watching and trying to keep track of serial #'s though, even if there is small chance in it.

Just XX out the last two or three #'s if it makes you feel better.

Welcome to the Forum. I would guess about $600 for the model 29 and $400-450 for the model 14, more if you have the original boxes and their contents. Hope this is helpful.

What's your point here? If someone tries that, and you have the proof of ownership, they can be brought up on charges.

I personally find that offering such advice if felt strongly enough to offer it is best done by PM (private messaging) we have here on the forum.

Never did think much of offering ideas to somebody who hadn't thought of that particular way of doing dirt to someone, even if it was ill-advised . . . .

As far as the serial number X-ing out, not bad advice. Probably little risk in sharing but specifying the range within a 100 units is as much business of mine as I care for anyone casually reading through to know.

To all of you "thanks" I have the info I was looking for and in an amazingly short period of time. Internet searches were starting to wear me out. I appreciate the fast response and insight to the dirtbags out there, I just hope they choose not to make my day.
Best Regards, John In Omaha
