Combat Grips on the 16-4
My 6" Model 16-4 came with the factory combat grips and I was just wondering did they all leave the factory with these grips? The reason I ask is because I have another 16-4 4" on hold at my LGS but it has target grips. I just bought an extra set of Combats from a fellow forum member (thanks Rich) and instead of the gloss finish on my 16-4 6" these are more of a matte finish. I plan on putting these on the 4" 16-4 when I pick it up replacing the target stocks. I actually like the matte finish better, what do you guys think?

Not sure if they all did but a 4" I previously owned came with them, too.

I like them a little less glossy.
I picked this set up expecting to strip and refinish. I hit them with 0000 steel wool then waxed. I was not expecting the results to be so good. Just a why not try episode.

I don't have an opinion on the finish because that can be altered. However, those laminated grip panels are flat out beautiful.

All model 16-4s in fact did NOT come with the factory combats. Mine had the typical K Frame targets, and now wears a set of smooth K Frame targets as I really love the feel of those.
Hope that this helps.

Not knowing too much about them it may help to know your barrel length ?
Just thinking mainly that some of the 6" and perhaps most of the 8 3/8 could have had targets.

According to the SCSW all three barrel lengths shipped with "Goncalo Alves wood combat finger-grooved stocks with S&W medallions".

Mine is 8-3/8", target trigger and target hammer.
Unfortunately it will be until July before I can get to the box...
I'll be sure to update as I am a bit curious as well now.
