Default Value of a Model 10-5 Snubnose ?

Is a model 10-5 in good mechanical shape but with a poor finish, (I'd say about 70%), worth $180 plus tax ? It's a snubbie square butt.

I was thinking of buying it for my son-in-law for a house gun. He doesn't own a gun right now and he needs some way to protect my daughter.
I'm thinking about ordering one of those police trade-in model 10s from J&G but saw this one in a pawn shop.

A Smith and Wesson model 10 in 38spl is a classic revolver that have been used forever. I would feel very well armed with one.

I would say the gun is worth the money. Next question. Are their children in the home? Has he or your daughter had any real firearms training? If not, then you need to get started! Kyle

No kids, they were just married last June. Daughter isn't interested in guns and he's never been around them. Took him shooting a couple of weeks ago and he loved it. He did really well. He's a good, responsible 24 year old. I plan on taking him shooting with me a lot.
Although I have toyed with getting him a short-barrel shotgun instead of a revolver.

Under $200 for a 2" 6 shot k-frame shooter? What are you waiting for?

If you have disposable income buy the 2".Excellent investment as a shooter and a sure sell for mo money if you need it.I would recommend a 4" from J&G as a house gun.If you dont buy the 2" would you mind telling me where it is ?

Unless you know where to find them at a lower price than that...

I bought a model 12 snubby about 10 years ago for $175. So i think you have a good deal lined up.

I'd buy it at that price especially if it is mechanically solid.

What he said!
Buy it and sleep better at night knowing your son can protect his household.

I'm finding that my 2" Model 64 (the Model 10's stainless steel counterpart) is also a great pocket gun. The round butt is a bit more versatile, but you'd still be killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. At that price I'd grab that revolver without a second thought, if it's mechanically sound.

Better go buy that before someone does a track of your IP address and starts calling every gun shop in your area to buy it out from under you

Sounds silly but it happened on another forum over a rifle, someone was like "saw a K98 for $200 today" and then came on 2 days later saying the gun shop owner sold it to "some guy who called on the phone looking for it"

Either way, if I saw a 2" Model 10 in any kind of working condition for that price I would have sucked it right up, of course I'm a huge fan of the Model 10's though.

2" is fine for a house gun, since most HD shootings are from "across the room" ranges and I have taken my 2.5" 66 out to 50 yards, scoring hits on a B-27 silhouette with no problems. I hear the FBI included shooting from 50 yards in training when they issued 2" Model 10's.

Keep talking. You're making me feel great about my $300 10-5 2-inch I picked up at a gun show in factory nickel that looks almost new!
