Polymer Bodyguard 38
I shot mine for the first time today. I usually carry an LCR which I like a lot; fairly accurate for me and not much recoil. I found the new Bodyguard to be more accurate with and without the laser (which was right on, incidentally), but so much softer to shoot that I shot 100 rounds of standard load without realizing I had done so. I'll have to gry used to turning on the laser when needed.

Since you own both would you care to do a personal LCR vs BG review on likes and dislikes with reasons for both? I am still on the fence as to either one. I own a SP101 and a 637 and see no real world improvement over either new model. The LCR does come with a very good trigger but that's not to say the SP101 is bad... And the BG is very light and has improved ergonomics right out of the box but that's not to say the 642 is clunky as it comes...

By way of background, let me say that I have had numerous 642's, a favorite SP 101, and LCR and the new BG. I have been carrying and LCR for the last year. I like its trigger in its weight.
Yesterday, I shot 100 rounds out of the BG. I like its trigger better than that of the LCR. Both the LCR and the BG have triggers better than any J frame I have had reworked.the LCR absorbs a lot of recoil; absorbs more recoil. The ratio of bore axis to my hand is 1 inch lower on the BG, and that must explain the lessening of recoil more than that of the LCR, which was also good in that regard.
I've never liked lasers. The one on this BG worked beautifully for me. I am now carrying it. That should be testimony enough.

"That should be testimony enough."
I suppose that is telling in and of itself.

The next question:what are the tactics using the laser? When you turn it on? How do you turn it on, right thumb or left thumb?
One issue I have using a laser is that with a laser, you look at the laserwhich is on the target when we have always been taughtto look at the front sight? This is an issue I had never seen discussed in all the magazines that praise the use of the laser. I guess in the ideal world, one would concentrate on the front sight, and subliminally look at the laser on the target. Again, if target shooting or shooting at standing still bull's-eye is what you doing, I guess that would be okay. But a moving target, threatening you, with your adrenaline running, is a totally different situation.
Not to get off-topic, but I think there is a lot of BS about the laser and its effectiveness. It really is any help when shooting at a static bull's-eye; in real life, I wonder.

Nice article in the latest "American Rifleman" on the BGs. In the editorial, Mark Keefe makes the astute observation that he is happy the BG has iron sights as well as the laser, as "Plan B. Batteries die, sights don't."

I don't think anybody has given any thought as to the tactics to be used with a laser. Especially the one on the BG, since it has to be turned on and off manually, with one of your two thumbs. Turning it on and off takes time. Using one or the other from is another decision which not only takes time to make, time to execute. So, where are the experts?
